A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRIDE LEADER
Hello Norris Lions,
Happy November! As the weather turns colder, here a few reminders to keep us running smoothly:
- Our Lost and Found was FULL this week of jackets and sweatshirts- students should be checking here first for lost items.
- If your child has a fever, vomiting, or other serious symptoms, please keep them home for 24 hours. Notify the office before 8:30 a.m. of their absence.
- To keep our traffic line running smoothly and minimizing time outside for staff and students, pull forward in the traffic line and stay in your vehicle. Staff will assist with helping your child as needed.
We hope to see you all this week at the Book Fair, and at Math and Literacy Night on Thursday, November 10th from 6:00-7:00!

5th Grade Algebra Aptitude Assessment
Dear Parents/Guardians of Fifth Grade Students,
In preparation for sixth grade registration, the MPS Algebra Aptitude Assessment will be administered to most fifth grade students. This test will help determine the appropriate sixth grade math placement for your child. The MPS Algebra Aptitude Assessment is scheduled for administration in your child’s elementary school building in January 2023.
The MPS Algebra Aptitude Assessment has proven to be an excellent predictor of abstract mathematical ability. It provides us with information that will increase the likelihood of an appropriate mathematics placement at the middle school level. The test does not measure past mathematical performance, but rather predicts a student’s readiness for independent learning and more abstract mathematics concepts.
In addition to the MPS Algebra Aptitude Assessment results, data from the 4th-grade NSCAS-Math assessment administered by the Nebraska Department of Education and data from theWinter MAP assessment will be considered when determining appropriate 6th grade math placement. MAP is a nationally normed test, aligned with the current Nebraska State Mathematics Standards, that provides reliable information about what your child understands and is able to do with mathematics.
If you do not wish for your child to take the MPS Algebra Aptitude Assessment, please contact your elementary principal, Mrs. Dolezal, by December 16, 2023.
Thank you,
Tony Weers, Ed.D.

Dear Parents and Families:
Get Ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them to become Bolder, Prouder, and Stronger Readers. AND—as always—every book they buy earns rewards for our school.
Here’s what you need to know about the Fair, which will take place from November 7-11 at the Norris library:
This year, say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet—your child’s digital payment account.
Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases.
If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Online Book Fair. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Your online orders will also benefit our school.
Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:

WINTER COAT GIVEAWAY
Dear Friends of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Omaha,
I am delighted to let you know that the Society’s 18th Annual Winter Coat & Apparel Drive/Give-Away is a “go” for this year. While the main goal of collecting and distributing winter coats and apparel to those in need remains the same – there is one significant difference between this year’s event and previous ones.
New Event Location
Omaha Home for Boys, 4343 North 52nd Street
8:00 am until 1pm, Saturday, November 5, 2022
Donating/Volunteering
Please consider donating winter coats (of all sizes) along with winter apparel, such as gloves, hats & scarves, or consider making a monetary donation to support this program. There are also a number of volunteer opportunities for you to consider. Complete information about donating and volunteering for the Winter Coat & Apparel Drive/Give-Away can be found HERE.
If you have any questions regarding this year's drive/give-away, please email coats@svdpomaha.com.
Your support of our annual Winter Coat & Apparel Drive/Give-Away is critical…and is very much appreciated! Our goal every year is to not run out of coats for kids. Last year we gave away nearly 3,000 winter coats. And, of that number, 1,000 were new coats for children!
This annual Winter Coat & Apparel Drive/Give-Away has been successful in the past, because of your support, and we are hoping we can count on you again in 2022!
