How the Olympic Mountains Were Formed
Mountains can be formed by the tectonic plates that the surface of the Earth is divided into. These plates move slowly and rub against each other or collide. As they press against each other the rocks are pushed and folded upward. This action formed the Olympic Mountains. Some of these rocks are sedimentary rocks that were formed from hardened layers of sand. Some of these rocks are igneous rock that was formed from lava.
