Volume 3 - Week of April 9, 2018
April 20th Moment of Solidarity
April 20 is the national day of solidarity walkout. We need a plan to allow for this expression of student voice in a safe, secure way. We as adults must:
1. Provide an avenue for student voice to be heard
2. Have the student-led moment that is peacefully disruptive
There are national calls for students to walk out of school April 20 at 10 and not return to school for the entire day. We already know of walkouts planned at Klein campuses. It may just be a matter of time before they become aware of and interested in participating in such events as they become more widely publicized. If you hear students advocating for or suggesting that such protest actions should be exercised, we would like to know about it so that we can explain the student led plan boundaries.
Klein ISD Student-led Plan Boundaries:
· 17 minutes for walkout/activity (if one is planned)
· Must stay inside building
· Non-disruptive, peaceful

Run, Hide, Fight Drill Coming May 3rd: We have a Run/Hide/Fight video and a PowerPoint to accompany it posted here in the Google Drive. Teachers should include these in their lesson plans throughout the day May 2nd, then you will be given a scenario to discuss with your classes. You should review the OODA (Observe, Orient, Decide, Act) loop with each class and create a class plan of action based on that scenario. The rest of that day, each class will review the scenario for 5-10-15 minutes, as it relates to that classroom’s proximity to the “event.”
The following day, May 3rd, we will run the simulation.
We will continue to readdress each part of our emergency response cycle to make sure our students and staff are prepared in case of emergency.

Testing Season Has Begun
We are in the midst of state testing season, and we continue to celebrate the amazing work you’ve done to ready our students for these days by ensuring High Quality Teaching on campus every day! Although state assessments are just one measure of student learning--a snapshot of the growth our Forever Learners have made so far this year--we know that our students always benefit from your student-focused and relationship-driven efforts. Thanks for all that you give to ensure whole student growth, whatever the measure, whatever the day! Best of luck to all of our students taking STAAR/EOC tests this week! AND DON’T FORGET TO WEAR YOUR JEANS!
