Richard Fox-Revett requires a junior cook for his restaurant, the Monkey Bar. He or she must be driven, ambitious, eager and quick to learn, open to criticism, hardworking, happy to take on responsibility, keen to contribute new ideas and pleasant to work with. Our kitchen crew is small so you will hit the ground hard and start running fast. You won’t be spending weeks peeling potatoes so you can meaninglessly put some fancy shmancy place on your resume; here you will learn real, useful and marketable skills, and be actually cooking and participating on the line from day one. The position is part-time, for now, but may increase to full-time depending upon the candidate’s skill and commitment. At the Monkey Bar, we butcher in-house, make all our own sauces and desserts, and take pride in preparing consistently excellent, and excellent-quality, food. We don’t take shortcuts, we emphasize skills and technique, and we believe you must master the basics before you even start thinking molecular/modernist. After apprenticing at the Windsor Arms Hotel, and travelling and working extensively in Europe, Richard went on to be sous-chef or chef at Centro, Splendido and the Four Seasons Toronto. Richard established the Monkey Bar 18 years ago and it remains one of Toronto’s favourite restaurants (see our reviews on Trip Advisor and Yelp).
