Lil Steamer Families --
As our COVID positivity rate hits an all-time high at the Greatest Little Elementary School in the Universe, I want to reiterate our commitment to being able to keep our students in-person as long as we are able to.
I will say, however, that has become very difficult this week as we have been short on substitute teachers and staff have been required to fill in to provide necessary coverage.
It's a short term solution to the problem, but I am hopeful that our numbers are on the decline from this most recent surge.
Add in the changes Tuesday night to the quarantine/isolation/exclusion rules and you can easily understand how challenging this week has been.
If you have a moment, I would encourage you to reach out to our teachers, paraprofessionals, nursing staff, kitchen staff, and/or bus drivers to let them know how much you appreciate their Herculean efforts this school year.
At times it feels like we are climbing a mountain in a blizzard - but your voices help provide the encouragement to keep going.
I am grateful to be a part of such an amazing school district focused on doing what's best for kids - thank you for all of the moments you have been flexible, understanding, and full of grace.
Warm Regards,
JAGH

Martin Luther King Jr. made it his life’s mission to bring compassion, fairness, and racial equality to all. His “I Have A Dream” Speech called for civil and economic rights and an end to racism.
Drawing inspiration from King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, ask your children what their dreams are. What inspires them? Talk about ways that your family can make the world a better place. You can also write them down and hang the paper on your fridge (or elsewhere in your home) to serve as a source of inspiration throughout the year.
January Reading Incentive
The Treasure Chest Challenge -
A sunken treasure chest, custom made by Ryan Dail, has been added to the library. Students are encouraged to bring change to the wishing well fish tank and drop the coins into the tank. If a student is successful in dropping the coin into the treasure chest they are rewarded with candy. The new activity has been a great addition with the change going to the library for future activities.
Students are also receiving books to keep and read at home. Many of the hard covered books were donated by Kohls. A book is such a wonderful gift.
The students have read almost 25,000 minutes toward our goal of 100,000 minutes. Students can find some extra time to read with the long weekend and snow coming down.
