Boost Your Writing Instruction
Teachers, Instructional Coaches, and Administrators Gr3-5
Most teachers would agree that teaching writing can be daunting. Expectations for what students should be able to do have increased, along with an emphasis on various types of writing. It is also difficult to support multiple levels, abilities, and the time needed for students to write in the secondary classroom.
Students need to learn how to write to better process and learn content, to prepare for the real world thinking and writing they will need in the future, as well as to succeed in school. Join us for a day to gain knowledge, strategies, and confidence in teaching writing.
Participants can expect the following:
Greater understanding of what good writing instruction looks like and how to use it to support students of all levels across the content areas
How to infuse The Six Traits into reading and writing so they support each other in literacy development
Guidance in using reading passages to invoke thoughtful written responses
How to build rich, quick grammar instruction into the literacy block that actually transfers into quality student writing
Technology tools that can enhance instruction and student writing
The use of mentor texts to increase student engagement and high quality writing
Use of rubrics to assess writing, guide student writing, and help students self-assess and set goals
Please plan on joining us at the Southern Indiana Education Center on July 18, 2018 for a session designed for all interested educators and leaders in grades 3 through 5.
