Parking Permits
2020-21 Parking Permit Instructions
Seniors, Juniors and Sophomores who did not pick their parking permit up during orientation, will need to make an appointment with Mr. Garcia or Miss. Annibal in the dean's office to receive a permit.
In order to receive a parking permit students will need the following with them in order to get a permit.
Once the district has made a determination about fees, your student’s account will be charged for the permit. In year’s past, the cost has been $50 for each permit.
A pen to fill out the form (we will not hand out pens).
Vehicle registration will need to be shown to get a parking permit.
Students must have a valid Driver's license and insurance at the time of purchase of the permit.
Students who failed a class at the end of the 2020 spring semester and did not make that specific class up in summer school are not eligible for a parking permit and will need to wait until the end of 1st quarter to apply for a parking permit. Students in this situation can get a dirt lot permit for free.
Students will also be allowed at this time to pick up a free dirt lot permit (will need registration for a car at time of picking up dirt lot permit) . All school parking rules apply to the dirt lot, but the grade eligibility does not apply. Cars with dirt lot permits must park in the dirt lot.
Students who don’t have a parking permit on their car can receive parking fines: 1st violation =$0, 2nd violation= $10, 3rd violation=$20, 4th violation=$30, 5th violation =$40, 6th violation = $40 and revoke parking permit.
All parking permits should be stuck to the back of the rear view mirror and be clearly visible from the front of the vehicle.
See Horizon Handbook for all other parking regulations.
Library News: October 2020
Hello students and parents!
The library staff continues our work together with our HHS teachers to develop students’ information literacy, technology literacy and digital citizenship skills.
During hybrid learning this fall, the library will not be open to students in person. However, students have access to our staff and materials at all times, as indicated below. Both Ms. Poinier and Mrs. Johannsen are available to students via email to answer any questions about resource and book access. As well, Ms. Poinier will continue to join classes to provide research instruction, both in person and remotely, as our Covid 19 protocols prescribe.
To access library resources and information during first semester see below:
Library Website: has updates about events, opportunities and new procedures.
Library Catalog: students login with their district credentials (ID number and password) and can look for and reserve books. Pick up for reserved books during hybrid learning will occur on Tuesdays and Fridays at the end of the school day in the front lobby/entrance. See the How-to video to learn more.
Sora: students select Horizon High School, login with their district credentials and then have access to ebooks and audiobooks which they can read/listen to via Sora, too.
Research Databases: (remote access passwords)
EBSCO: provides access to high quality resources including newspapers, magazines, podcasts, journal articles and more.
Gale in Context: High School: provides access to high quality resources including newspapers, magazines, podcasts, journal articles and more.

Good News! As indicated above, we will checkout library books this fall. Students can learn how to reserve a physical book for checkout and pick up with this video. We look forward to sharing these materials with you.
Attention Seniors
The Boettcher Foundation Scholarship application is now open!
This is a highly selective, full-ride scholarship with a lengthy application. The application deadline is November 1st. Students can get on the Boettcher website to take a "Senior Competitiveness Quiz" to see if they may be good candidates for the application process. For more information, go to the website at www.boettcherscholarshiponline.org/eligibility/ to take the eligibility quiz. Please inform Mrs. Neumann if you are applying for the Boettcher Scholarship.
Assessment Score Removal from Transcripts
There is a new law (SB20-175) stating that student transcripts may no longer include
state/national assessment scores, including the ACT and SAT. While this practice was required
previously, this new law changed that practice to disallow schools from reporting state/national
assessment scores on a student’s final transcript.
This bill goes into effect this year and does not allow for any exceptions. As a result, we cannot
place state/national assessment scores on student transcripts, even if the student requests it.
This communication is intended to notify you of this change. The district is in process of
removing these scores from student transcripts.
Thank you,
----------
Gracias,
