SAT/ACT after school practice
Parents
Dear Parents, WLHS is excited to offer a voluntary, after-school test prep course that focuses on strategies for taking the SAT and ACT. This course is designed to help students maximize their test scores in reading, language, and mathematics. Most importantly, this course will teach them how these tests are structured and how to prepare for them on their own. We are offering this course to juniors first. Then, we will open it to other grades based on availability. There is no cost to the student for this course. Sessions will align with a highly recommended commercial program for standardized test-taking. A large component of this course will be online, so students will be able to access materials at home as well. There will be occasional “homework” for the students to practice skills outside of the course time. This course will be on Tuesday afternoons throughout this semester from 3:30-5:00 p.m. The first session will be Tuesday, February 5 and the last session will be Tuesday, May 28. The class will meet every Tuesday except for the Tuesday of Spring Break (April 2). This will be a total of 16 sessions. If your child were to miss a week, he/she will have the videos and practice questions at home to catch up with where we are in the course. Additionally, they will also have access to the Science section of these tests, even though we won’t be focusing on these during our weekly sections. Please be aware that there may be conflicts with athletics. Participating athletes will have the same amount of material available as everyone else, but they may have to do more work at home. Students participating in this course should register for the June 1 SAT or June 8 ACT before the May 3 deadline. If you are interested in your child participating, click the following link (or copy and paste into your browser) and fill out the information to sign up by Thursday, January 31: https://goo.gl/forms/ezSj4RkPRfSgrCS13 Space is limited! You will be notified by email if your child is selected to participate in the course. Amy M. Duke, Ed.D. Instructional Support Specialist Laurens County Board of Education 478-875-1000 ext. 4887
