What We are Learning
Reading: We are focusing identifying the main idea of a multi-paragraph text. We are also focusing on our RAPS strategy (Restate, Answer, Prove it, and Summarize) as we practice written comprehension.
RI.2.2 - Identify the main topic of a multi-paragraph text as well as the focus of specific paragraphs within the text.
Writing: We will begin a new opinion writing unit on Wednesday. Students will learn about how to state an opinion and back it up with reasons that support their claim.
W.2.1 Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use
linking words (e.g.,because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.
Fundations: We will begin Unit 9 on Monday. We are focusing on r-controlled vowels. Please see your child's homework folder for more information.
- RF.2.3 Know and apply grade -level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding.
- RF.2.3. Decode words with common prefixes and suffixes.
- RF.2.3. Distinguish long and short vowels when reading regularly spelled one syllable words.
Math: We will begin a new geometry unit on Monday.
2.G.A.1 Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles, or given number of equal faces.
Science: We will begin Dr. Bob's Sound School next week.
