CAASPP State Testing Begins May 5th

Dear Families,

State Testing for language arts and math begins this week and runs until May 17th. In order to perform at his or her best, please ensure that your child gets 8 hours of sleep each night and eats a healthy breakfast. Avoid heavy meals or foods that are high in sugar. Another good tip is to avoid rushing in the morning. Set out clothes and school materials the night before to avoid any additional anxiety. Encourage your child to do his or her best and keep conversations positive. I will provide students with healthy snacks and mindfulness exercises during testing. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Reading Challenge Ends May 27th

Dear Readers,

Reading "a lot" is one of the most powerful ways to increase fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. I am so proud of all the hard work you've put into developing your reading skills this year!

On that note, our school's reading challenge ends on May 27th. Congratulations to Martin, Kayla, Ranveer, Jordyn, Alyssa, Chris, Chelsea, and Jada for making their reading challenge goals. We've got four weeks until the challenge is over. You can do this!

The class AR goal of 60 points at 85% or higher also ends on May 27th. Winners will enjoy a pizza lunch provided by Mrs. Andrews. Happy Reading!

Genius Hour

Dear Parents,

In April, I attended an EdCamp workshop with Bay Area teachers to learn more about technology and how it is used in 21st century classrooms. During this workshop, I learned about Genius Hour and have decided to incorporate this practice in our class. Genius Hour sessions will be held on Friday afternoons and will allow time for students to research something they are passionate about. It can be anything from learning to play the piano or designing a robot. Please talk to your child about his or her project and how you can support their independent learning. Students have access to Chromebooks, stationary, and our classroom library to research their ideas. Students will present their findings (via Google Slides, a DIY project, a painting, etc.) to their peers. Please let me know if you have any questions.
