Problem Solving "Ah-Ha" Moments
A few "Ah-Ha" takeaways from the sessions include:
- Students would benefit from more experiences with problem solving. Look to condense easier EnVision lessons to make room. Remember Deb's words, "You own your math calendar, it doesn't own you!"
- A cluster of three problems on a standard could create a great gradual-release progression; one task for modeling, one task for partner work, and one task for independent work
- Consult the Preliminary Planning Page for help with connections, especially when you are modeling how to deepen this standard
- Scaffolded planning sheets are fine in the beginning and for students who need them, but for students who can problem solve without, remove this support.
- Keep math vocabulary at the forefront of discussion and encourage labeling.
