3rd Quarter - Welcome Emails
As previously communicated, the changes in learning format will result in needed changes to staffing to accommodate balanced classes and teacher to student ratios. The changes may result in having a different teacher for the 3rd Quarter, even if you did not change the learning format.
In Person Learners - 3rd Quarter
At Home Learners - 3rd Quarter Deployment of Materials
DATE: Thursday, December 17
TIMES: 8:30-10:30 or 3:30-5:00
You will enter Boyd Elementary through the carpool lanes as noted here.
Before you leave your house, please click this link to prepare a form for pick-up and attach it to the passenger side of your vehicle. You can also handwrite student name, grade, and teacher in a dark-colored marker (see the example on the form). As you enter the carpool lanes, signs and staff members will be posted to provide more information as needed.
Here is your checklist:
- December 17 - 8:30-10:30 AM or 3:30-5:00 PM - Pick up your child’s 3rd Quarter materials
- Bring back the books that you were previously provided. You will receive new books.
- Bring the Chromebook signed-in. Our campus tech will check it to ensure that all components are working currently before the next quarter.
- Print off and fill out this form or handwrite student name, grade, and teacher in a dark-colored marker (see the example on the form)
- Attach form/handwritten paper to the passenger side of your car window (see examples on the form)
- Open your trunk or back door for our staff members to place materials in your car without contact.
Please help students to keep their materials in the designated book boxes that were provided at the beginning of the school year.
At-Home Learning Schedule for 3rd Quarter
8:30-9:30 - Synchronous Time (ZOOM Class with Teacher)
9:30-11:00 - Asynchronous Time - Independent Work Time in Google Classroom (Teachers will also have scheduled times for small group or independent support)
11:00-11:30 - Lunch
11:30-12:30 - Synchronous Time (ZOOM Class with Teacher)
12:30-2:00 - Asynchronous Time - Independent Work Time in Google Classroom (Teachers will also have scheduled times for small group or independent support)
2:00-2:45 - Specials (PE, Music, Art)
*Recess time is coordinated by families during the asynchronous times.
*Students that are provided Bilingual Education, ESL, Dyslexia, AIM or special education services may have adjusted schedules or additional small group class times.
*If a teacher is absent, a staff member will provide students instructions for the day at 8:00 AM. Information will also be provided in the Google Class Stream. Students will work asynchronously using the lessons provided by the teacher in Google Classroom. Unfortunately, we currently are experiencing a shortage of substitutes, and it may not always be possible to have synchronous instruction on days that At-Home Teachers are absent.
At-Home Learning Expectations
Participation in At-Home Learning requires a higher level of commitment from the parent to ensure that students are attending synchronous classes on time and completing their independent work during asynchronous independent time.
The synchronous Zoom time is equal to the class time at school, and students are expected to follow the rules provided by the teacher.
Student Behavior Expectation on ZOOM:
- Students should be sitting at a table or desk in a quiet area
- The camera is on when instructed by the teacher
- Microphone muted while the teacher is speaking
- The student uses their own name in the profile for the teacher to view
- Chat room comments should be respectful and focused on the learning
- When working independently in a breakout room, students should exhibit respect for other students
- No playing with pets, toys, or little siblings during class time
- No food or drink near the Chromebook
- Blankets and hoodies should not be covering the student's head in a way that limits their view from the teacher or disrupts their participation
- Students should be on time for the synchronous times and attend any scheduled small group sessions with support staff
- Students should not leave the synchronous time before the teacher dismisses them.
- Students who exhibit minor disruptions - turning on the microphone and making noise, talking when they should be listening, making faces, jumping or running around - will be provided a reminder to stop the behavior and/or placed in the waiting room or breakout room for a couple of minutes to regroup if behavior continues.
- Students who are extremely disruptive, argumentative, rude, or vulgar will be placed in the waiting room or breakout room until the teacher is able to speak with them privately about the behavior. If this behavior is repetitive, they will be removed from the class for that session, and parents will be contacted by the teacher. The behavior of one student will not be permitted to disrupt the learning of the entire class. The administrator will contact parents if a student's behavior is so disruptive or repetitive that it impacts their learning or the learning of other students.
- Check your student's Google Classroom assignments regularly to ensure they are finishing their work each day.
- Parents should not be doing the student's work or giving them answers during tests. It becomes more difficult for a teacher to identify learning gaps and support the growth of the students when the parent is doing the work.
- Ensure that your child is taking good care of their Chromebook. Food and snacks should not be near the Chromebooks. We have had 10 devices damaged because of spills. Parents will be charged $300-$400 for damage to a device.
- Ensure that you have an accurate email on Skyward, because it is linked to your Google Classroom and any communication with teachers.
At-Home Learning Expectations:
- Attend all synchronous class times;
- Complete and submit all assignments by the due date; and
- Attend all asynchronous small group/intervention as assigned by the teacher
Students who do not make adequate academic progress and earn a passing grade for a subject area or grade level could be required to:
- Return to In-Person Learning for next Quarter
- Repeat the grade level; and/or
- Attend summer school (any cost associated is the parent’s responsibility)
In Person Leaners - Do not send student to school with ANY COVID-19 symptoms
Daily Self-assessment
Everyone has to do their part to reduce the spread of COVID. Each day parents are asked to assess their students prior to sending them to school. The self-screening consists of parents answering questions regarding exposure to and symptoms of COVID-19.
Students should not be sent to school if;
- they have been in close contact with any person with a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past 10 days (CDC updated this time from 14 days to 10 days)
- they have been diagnosed with COVID-19 until released by the doctor, or
- they exhibit any of the following symptoms: cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, diarrhea, feeling feverish or a measured temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit.
In Person Supplies for Art
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I must compliment my young artists. Most have done a great job of keeping up with their art supplies and bringing them to art class! And in continuing our efforts to keep everything sanitized and distanced, they will continue to bring their own Art Supplies to art class for the Spring semester.
Please make sure your kiddo has the following supplies when we return on Jan. 5th.
- 2 pencils
- 1 eraser
- 1 box of crayons (at least 24 count) - older kids may not need these but the younger kids do.
- 1 box of markers (regular size please, not thin) again, older kids may not need them but the younger kids easily lose them and probably don't have all the colors.
- 1 box of colored pencils (4th, 5th, and 6th graders) if they don't have them for the projects we use them, they will use their crayons.
- 12" Ruler (5th and 6th graders) either plastic or wood is fine
- A container (box or bag) to keep it all in. Many boxes are broken and if they're using a Zip Lock bag, many of them have holes. Check with your student to see if they need a new one.
THANK YOU!

PTA needs your help!
Due to our current COVID guidelines, the PTA has been unable to grow our membership as we have traditionally done in the past. Our school benefits greatly from the PTA’s membership income each year.
Please consider joining our PTA for the 2020-2021 school year at joinpta.org for $10. Once at the website, click on the white “Join PTA” in the middle of the screen and then use the drop-down menus to find our school. Please let me know if you have any questions!
Free and Reduced Lunch Application
It is an unusual year due to coronavirus disruptions. Nevertheless, one thing has not changed, parents need to complete the Free and Reduced Lunch Application. This is important data because it can impact school funding from federal grants. The Title 1 federal grant provides our school with funding for additional staff and resources needed to meet the needs of all of our students.
- Information: Free and Reduced Lunch Storyboard for Parents in English and Spanish, https://www.esc16.net/page/title1swi._PFE.Video.FRL.Strybord.Parents
If you qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch, please assist our school in receiving the needed funding to meet the needs of all of our students by completing the Free and Reduced Lunch Application.
Parent, Student, & Teacher Compact
The compact is another word for “contract” or “agreement.” The Boyd Elementary Parent – Student – Teacher Compact is an agreement between parents, students, and the school (teachers and staff) to foster student achievement. Please read and complete the form below and let’s all take active roles in improving student academic achievement and in building and developing a partnership that will help children achieve success in school and in life.
