Mustang Weekly

Week of December 15th

Farewell... & Hello!

Sadly, I have to share that we will be losing Tim (our new Tech). Due to some changes and shuffling within the Technology Department, Tim will be reassigned to CHS. I know we've all loved having him for the short time that he's been here.

Tim will be replaced by Juan Hernandez. Please welcome him, and make him feel at home at Austin. He should begin shortly after the Break.

Building Improvements!

Beginning next week, workers will come to begin measurements for our carpet replacements (which should begin in the Spring). The replacement will be carpet "squares" which allows for easier cleaning and maintenance.

Also, Principals continue moving forward with work on our "building redesign." With our most recent bond, money was allocated for updates/improvements to the existing campuses. What does that mean for Austin? It means we get an Austin Elementary makeover! We met with the design firm this past Friday to give input for our individual campuses, and we meet again this Monday to begin looking at specifics. Included in the design will be new furniture, tech resources, etc. We may also have some opportunities to make some structural changes (windows, walls, etc).

It's an exciting time to be at Austin!

Learning Design

Hour of Code

Our Austin Elementary "Hour of Code" was a big success! Check out a few of the Tweets below.

It was great hearing from a few of you on how you saw kids that typically struggle really light up during this time. Who knows... You may have helped spark a new interest!

Let's Share Our PBL Expertise...

I have truly been amazed at the quality and uniqueness of many of our PBL units this year. I have been looking for a way for us to share and feature some of our best ideas from each grade level. I'm thinking that the Mustang Weekly may be a solution!

This Spring, I have designated 1 week per grade level to share examples/details of a PBL unit they have designed for our learners. See below for the schedule. I would like to feature pictures, resources, products, etc.

By the Friday prior to your grade level's "feature date," please email me any items you would like to include in your Mustang Weekly PBL Grade Level "Feature" (fancy name, I know). This is an informal way for us to share some of our design/unit ideas with our fellow educators. Let me know if there are any questions!

  • 5th Grade - Week of Feb 2nd
  • 4th Grade - Week of Feb 16th
  • 3rd Grade - Week of March 2nd
  • 2nd Grade - Week of March 23rd
  • 1st Grade - Week of April 6th
  • Kinder - Week of April 27th

Formative Assessment Through Technology

I wanted to quickly share something that we brought back from our Learning Forward experience. I checked out several of the sites below, and the majority are quick and easy ways to formatively assess your learners' understanding. Give one a try, and let me know what you think!

Also, please note that these Snap Shot demographics play a large role in determining our accountability reports.
