English I
For EOC Exam, students participated in a Winter Olympics game each day. Students read passages as groups, annotated and discussed. They then got a set of questions that go with the passage and answer as a group, citing specific textual evidence. Groups that answer questions correctly got a shot at that day's game. Students participated in curling, ice hockey, "snow ski ball", and cross country skiing (scavenger hunt).
During To Kill a Mockingbird - students acted out the trial scene.
Spanish I
Students performed a parody of the well known turn "La Cucaracha." The song included the conjugation of the verb "ser", which means to be. It also incorporated the subject pronouns that correlate with the verb. The best performance won candy as a prize. Throughout the semester, the two criteria for competitions similar to this were content and creativity. Selecting the winner really came down to the group's content that focused on their accent, intonation and fluency. This particular group added the cultural handshake and the formal "you" that is used with adults to show respect.
FBLA
FBLA Triad Regional Competitive Event Conference was held at Chapel Hill High School on January 13th, 2018

During each semester Student Media Assistants are responsible for creating book displays in the library. During the fall Student Media Assistants created displays for Banned Books Week, DCS Teen Lit Top 10 and Holidays.
