SCHOOL-WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SYSTEM (SWPBS)
During the first few weeks of school, all staff and students explicitly teach and model expected behavior using the school-wide positive behavior system, Go CATS! During the fourth week, we reviewed "Act Respectfully" and focused lessons on "Choose Kindness." Students who were wow-ing us with Choose Kindness behaviors earned Cat Cash, which can be used towards classroom-specific and whole-school rewards. Learn more about Go CATS! and SWPBS from your child, your child’s teacher, the EV webpage, and EV social media accounts.
Stay tuned for more SWPBS and Responsive Classroom news each week.

MEET THE PRINCIPAL'S ADVISORY COMMITTEE (PAC)
The purpose of the PAC is to review data, offer suggestions, make decisions, and communicate the topics discussed during our meetings. The PAC focuses on the building goals, specifically goals related to student growth and achievement, safe and caring environment, and climate and culture. While they have input on all goals, each member specializes in one of the goals. Similarly, there is a teacher leadership committee called the Building Leadership Team or BLT for short. They too work on the same goals with specialized teams. Stay tuned for opportunities related to the building goals!

MAIN OFFICE NOTES: SCHOOL IS CANCELLED!
Now that we caught your attention, we need your help so we can have a strong start to the school year. At the beginning of each school year, we ask our families to verify the information in our student record system. This information system is used for general communication from the school along with emergency broadcast including school closures, delays or early dismissals. This is the same information that is used if our school nurse needs to contact you in the event of an emergency situation involving your child.
If you have not yet done so, please follow the simple steps below to verify and update your information:
- Please log on to Skyward https://www.ojrsd.com/parents and verify all the student information. This is extremely important so that the most up to date information is available to best assist you and your students for the 19-20 school year.
The "window" for families to complete this important task will remain open until the end of September. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact 610-469-5714.

IT'S BACK!!! THE EV NEWS BROADCAST
EV has a very talented news team comprised of 6th grade students who participate in an independent study. Under the direction of Mrs. Rapp, students produce a weekly news broadcast, which started in November 2018. EV News reports school-related news, jokes, the weekly challenge, special features, and even bloopers! We plan to start sharing our EV News with our families each week. Enjoy!
This video features: Teacher Feature with Mrs. Solt, student spotlight, Special Events/PTA updates, and a special Go Cats segment with Ms. Seeley.
LOTS OF FUN AND LEARNING AT EV
Engineers in Mr. Brewer's class designed tall towers using index cards and scissors. Students learned that engineers communicate, stick with an idea, and fail... yes, fail. Failure helps engineers evaluate what worked/can be improved.
Third graders at EV learn about the differences between teasing, conflicts, mean moments and bullying during their Guidance special class with Mrs. Quinn.
Second graders in Mr. Famous' and Mrs. Gallo's classes enjoy taking a yoga break with a guest yoga instructor, Miss Jen!
Monday was #dotday2019! Students and staff wore dots to symbolize the positive mark they make on the world.
SPREAD THE NEWS
Do you have exciting news to share about our EV students? Did a student participate in a service activity, competition, or sporting event? Share with Ms. Seeley at cseeley@ojrsd.net to add to our Weekly WOW newsletters. Pictures welcome!
DID YOU KNOW...SEPTEMBER IS ALOPECIA AWARENESS MONTH?
Recently, we had a speaker in the First Grade visit and speak about Alopecia. Jeff Woytovich is the founder of the Children's Alopecia Project, a locally based organization who travels around the United States to educate students and teachers about Alopecia.
Our first grader, Jackson Fields, was diagnosed with Alopecia in 2017, an autoimmune condition that has no other ill effect besides hair loss. His body is "allergic to growing hair." Alopecia affects people of both sexes and all ages, but is most common in children. It is a disease experienced by over 5 million Americans. Jacks is a happy and otherwise healthy 6 year old boy but has lost his hair on his head and is bald. He continues to fight for hair regrowth with medicine.
Because of Jackson's appearance, we wanted to share his story in hopes to spread awareness of Alopecia and encourage his fellow students to understand that everyone is unique and different.
The talk with the First Grade encouraged each student to be a superhero and to not allow peers to bully and speak up if someone is being bullied. Jackson has gained the confidence after this talk to not wear a hat on the bus or into the classroom. Our overall goal was to educate the children and Jackson to feel comfortable around his peers. Jackson's parents feel fortunate to share his story with you all and are very appreciative our support.
STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Second Grade Teacher, Mrs. Serfass
My name is Donna Serfass. This will be my eighth year of teaching and I am very excited to join the East Vincent community! We have been married for seventeen years and have three beautiful children- Brian (13), Riley (11) and Reese (10). When I am not at school, you can find me rooting for my son on the football field or supporting my two favorite cheerleaders! I am looking forward to a wonderful year of learning in 2nd grade!
Learning Support Teacher, Mrs. Overland
I recently moved from DC where I was a Learning Support teacher for 7 years. Currently living in Phoenixville with husband Scott and daughter Addie. Lover of chocolate and Bravo TV. Looking forward to meeting staff and students and having a great year!
