Digital Learning Journals
Seesaw
Seesaw is a student-driven digital portfolio that empowers students to independently document what they are learning at school. Students can use photos, videos, drawings, text notes, and links to show what they know. When students add to their Seesaw journal, content is uploaded, organized by student, and immediately accessible to teachers from any device. Teachers can browse work from the entire class or for a single student.
These journals will encourage reflection and provide an authentic audience. Seesaw helps capture the learning process -not just the end result. Students can use Seesaw’s built-in audio recording and drawing tools to reflect on what they’ve learned or explain how they got their answer. Another great benefit Seesaw offers is sign-in options that work for ALL AGES. Younger learners or classrooms with shared devices can sign in with a QR code. Older students can sign in with their existing Google Account. I think that this could definitely be an amazing tool for your classroom....and it's free!
Strengthen Connections Between School and Home ∙
Seesaw allows you to Include families in the learning process by inviting them to view updates to their child’s Seesaw journal. Teachers approve all new additions and comments before anything is shared with parents. Anytime you can allow parents the opportunity to take a peek into their child's school day...they love it! Seesaw is the perfect window for them to see the amazing things their children are learning in the classroom.

Reading Fluency Practice
Activity: Practice and document reading fluency by reading a page from a new book.
Tip: Take a photo of a page of a book. Use the audio recording tool to record reading aloud, taking care to speak clearly with expression.
Supports Common Core: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.2-5.5. Create audio recordings of stories or poems.
Math Scavenger Hunt
Activity: Identify geometric shapes, angles or fractions around the classroom.
Tip: Take a photo of a geometric shape, angle or fraction you can find in the classroom. Use the drawing tool or text tool to explain what you found. Ex: the clock is a circle, where my desk leg meets the tabletop is a right angle, the windows divide the wall into fourths.
Supports Common Core: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.K.G.A.1: Describe objects in the environment using names of shapes, and describe the relative positions of these objects using terms such as above, below, beside, in front of, behind, and next to.
Details from a Field Trip
Activity: Share details from a field trip in the community
Tip: When your students have the opportunity to be out and active in the community - take devices if possible and snap a few photos. You can use your own device to take a few images and tag a group of students if you can't take school devices out of the building. Use the text feature to write down the location of your visit. When you're back in the classroom, have students use the audio tool to describe a couple key highlights from the visit. If you have multiple photos, each student could describe their favorite moment from the field trip.
