Thankfulness Breeds Living Well
Wellness simply means to “live well.” There are different ingredients to living well, just like there are different ingredients to aunt Betsy's stuffing. How she does it, not sure, but it would certainly be rude not to partake :).
Each of us do our best to live well as we live out our personal versions of it, focusing on the ingredients we feel we need for the season we are in. One key element for successful living we can all agree on is to continually practice gratefulness.
The 1st Thanksgiving in 1621 wasn't simply one big meal. It was a 3 day festival of eating, hunting, and other entertainment in honor of the Pilgrims 1st successful harvest. (See below for more fun facts from the 3 minute video via History.com). Take time to reflect on your successful harvest next week during your thanksgiving happenings. The health of your family, the growth of our companies, the quality friendships in our lives, goals set and achieved; those are all successful harvests.
Being grateful means to be "warmly or deeply appreciative of kindness or benefits received." Expressing gratitude does not begin with a feeling, but rather a choice. Gratitude is a cousin to forgiveness (yes, we did spring that on before certain family show up next week). Both begin with a decision, and then the "feeling" will follow. Our mind serves as a mentor to our emotions. A mature perspective on life will allow the practice of gratefulness to govern our thoughts & intentions. Performing daily interval sets of gratitude will push our souls into fantastic shape! This life habit will also pave the way for other incredible avenues to flow into our lives. It's been said that energy comes from gratitude. The more we are thankful for things the more energy we will find.
To assist in practicing thankfulness, we offer a challenge for this week (and no worries, it's not about calorie counting). Keep a top 5 list at all times. Write the top 5 things in your life you are thankful for. Place this list in a visible spot: your monitor at work, the dashboard in your car, the bathroom mirror, tape it to the backside of your cell phone, etc. The more you see it the more you believe it.
