Candler Elementary Updates
This month, we will enjoy a delicious Thanksgiving Holiday meal on November 16. We are opening the doors to Kindergarten and 1st grade parents for this meal. Next month, we will have another Holiday meal and invite 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade parents. There will be a sign-up sheet coming home soon for you to make your lunch reservation. Adult meals will cost $4.75 that day and you will need to bring cash or check.
Unfortunately, we are having A LOT of FLU and other viruses going around the schools and in the community. We are all very susceptible to these viruses since our immune systems have been protected for 2 years with masks. This is a reminder of how important it is to take care of yourself by eating healthy, drinking lots of water, exercising and getting at least 7 hours of sleep. Hand washing is your number one protection from sickness. Of course, wash hands with soap for 20 seconds, rubbing briskly, then rinse and rub all the soap off. If students are not feeling well, please keep them at home and just send us a note to let us know! It is better to be safe than sorry!
Finally, if you have a rising Kindergartener or know someone in our district who does, please visit us on either November 4 at 11:00am or November 17 at 9:00am for a Kindergarten tour!
Kindergarten
Kindergarteners are working on identifying the main topic, settings, and key details in their stories. Students are focusing on the four seasons and changes in the weather that take place during each season. Students will be expanding their knowledge in measurement
by using numbers to determine and record length. They will be learning to count sets of objects up to 20. Kindergarteners will continue to work on recognizing and writing their numbers and letters.

2nd Grade
3rd Grade
4th Grade
This month in 4th grade, students will be studying accurate and efficient ways to fluently solve multi-digit addition and subtraction problems using a variety of strategies. Students will enjoy learning to identify sensory details in a story and finish up their study of North Carolina history and move onto Science concepts. Students will enjoy this term's Science content with a study of the properties of matter and how those properties undergo change.
This month in 4th grade Dual Language, students will be studying a new unit "El cuerpo
humano: sistemas y sentidos". Students will be excited to explore the human body, as we will
recreate a laboratory in our classroom and students will play the role of doctors to study the
different systems. They will enhance their communication skills: listening, reading, writing, and
speaking, while making connections between their previous knowledge and the new content and
concepts.
