IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE MCPS SCHOOL SYSTEM MEDICAL OFFICER

As we prepare to gather and celebrate the upcoming holidays, let’s think about how we can enjoy the time together, while keeping health in mind.

Please review the holiday health reminders in this message. The CDC also offers these holiday health strategies which include general wellness tips, and this guide to everyday actions to prevent the spread of flu-like illness, including flu and RSV.

PARENT ENCOURAGEMENT

The Parent Encouragement Program is offering a FREE 7 week program offered in English and Spanish for parents and caregivers of children ages 5 to 18. The purpose is to promote child wellness and resiliency, and is focused on a strengths-based parenting approach.This program touts success in turning around difficult relationships among the parent-child dynamic, and is proven to increase positive behaviors in families and children. Students are required to be registered in ParentVue with an up-to-date physical on file by 3pm on 12/6 in order to try out.

Get Ready!- Parent/Guardian Meeting for Outdoor Education

On Tuesday December 6th from 6-7pm in the EMS Cafeteria, there will be a Parent/Guardian Meeting for Outdoor Education. This is for 6th grade parents/guardians only. Permission Slips for Outdoor Ed were handed out prior to Thanksgiving Break.

WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE

The 6th grade team is hosting a winter clothing drive to ensure our students have access to warm clothing for Outdoor Education. Please read the flyer to find information about drop-offs including our first date which is the night of conferences on November 21st!

Free Thanksgiving Meals Available!

Free Thanksgiving meals will be distributed on Monday, November 21. There are 75 spots being offered for EASTERN students who sign up.


Time: Monday November 21 from 4:30 - 6:30 pm

Place: Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church of Washington DC/ 701 Norwood Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20905


The Thanksgiving meals will include:

Turkey or 2 chickens

Canned vegetables

Boxed mashed potatoes

Cranberry sauce

5TH Grade Test Results Were Mailed!

Parents of 6th graders, your child’s Individual Score Report(s) for the 2022 Maryland Integrated Science Assessment (MISA) for Grades 5 has been delivered to the Post Office. In addition to the school reports, you will receive a guide to assist you in understanding your student’s score on the assessment. Please allow at least one week for delivery from receipt of this message. If you have any questions about your student’s MISA scores, please contact Ms. Cwerner, the 6th grade counselor at the school.

Here are eight things to know for Thursday, Nov. 17. Get information about vital steps taken to support our school buses, another chance to learn about the budget process, the 2022-2023 winter athletics safety plan, how to make sure your voice is heard on the upcoming school calendar, upcoming ESL classes for parents, a call for more crossing guards, exciting wins for our students in sports and music, and reminders about the upcoming school closure.

Eagle Strut Fun Run: Save the date & seeking volunteers!

We are beginning the planning for the first-ever Eagle Strut Fun Run, to take place on March 3rd during the school day. Please help make this event a success!

Need Food For the Weekend?

We are able to provide snack backs to students who are in need of food on the weekends and over breaks thanks to Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Montgomery County Chapter.


Thanks to their sponsorship we are able to provide food bags weekly to 65 students. If you would like to participate in receiving food, please contact your child's counselor or complete the online permission form and waiver in English or Spanish. All forms should be submitted to the counseling office.

Families of students who may qualify for free or reduced-price meals can now apply for assistance for school meals. Eligibility is based on family size and gross income. Students in Maryland who qualify for reduced-price meals will receive free breakfast and lunch meals.
