A Message from the Superintendent...

Dear Members of the Alvord Community,

Happy 4th of July! I hope this week's message finds you and your family well and safely enjoying the holiday. Summer school ended this past Thursday. Find grades in the Aeries portal.

When we return from the long holiday weekend there will be 29 days left before school begins, on August 4. It will be here before you know it.

One more look back...

The Alvord Educational Foundation (AEF) gave out their annual scholarship awards to outstanding graduates of Hillcrest, La Sierra and Norte Vista high schools. Scholarships of up to $2,000 were awarded to graduates who excelled as students and role models. Thank you to our generous friends at AEF, particularly President Zack Earp , Secretary Nancy Wyatt, and Treasurer Getty George.

Activate Your Parent Square Account

In last week's message I discussed our new 2-way communication system, Parent Square. But it's only 2-way if you activate your account. If you don't activate your account you will still receive all messages from your school or the district, but you will not access all of the features, including:

  • Two-way texting with translation between staff and families
  • Communicate in your preferred language
  • Direct message teachers and staff through a secure and private interface
  • Participate in group messages
  • Complete forms, permission slips, and other necessary documents
  • Clear student absences

Watch the brief video on Parent Square below and activate your account today. For more information on Parent Square visit our Parent Square home page here.

Data for the week ending Friday, July 1:

Reported a Positive Test:

  • 13 students (down from 5 previous week)
  • 7 staff members (same as the previous week)

Contact Tracing:

  • 158 people identified (down from 24 the previous week)
  • 5 placed in full quarantine (up from 5 the previous week)

Overall, as of July 1, including the entire 2021-22 school year, we have had 3,476 students and 470 staff members report a positive test for COVID-19. Stay current with our case rate by regularly tracking our COVID-19 Data Dashboard and FAQ here. Cases recorded on the Dashboard are confirmed by Riverside County Public Health officials and remain on the Dashboard for 14 days.

During the week ending July 1, in Riverside County, there were 3,003 new cases (0.5% increase), equating to 30.1 cases per 100K (7-day average), 9 new deaths (0.1% increase), and a 18.3% test positivity (7-day rate), which is a 2.4% increase from 7-days prior. Since many people are now testing at home with antigen rapid tests, the positivity rate is estimated to be much higher since all cases are not reported. There are currently 149 COVID-19 hospitalized patients

4 fewer patients hospitalized from prior day total (2.6% decrease).

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Community Level COVID-19 rating system, the community level in Riverside County remains at Medium for the third consecutive week. Learn what a Medium Level means here.

The Community Levels are a new tool to help communities decide what prevention steps to take based on the latest data. Levels can be low, medium, or high and are determined by looking at hospital beds being used, hospital admissions, and the total number of new COVID-19 cases in an area.

This data is as of July 1, 2022, as reported on the State's tracking web site.
