Alexander Graham Bell's Life

The telephone was created by Alexander Graham Bell. His wife and mother were both deaf. This greatly influenced his work. Alexander Graham Bell was born on March 3, 1847, in Edinburgh, Scotland. He died on August 2, 1922, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada. Bell quoted, :“Great discoveries and improvements invariably involve the cooperation of many minds. I may be given credit for having blazed the trail, but when I look at the subsequent developments I feel the credit is due to others rather than to myself.”

The Telephone

The telephone means a device that takes sound to faraway places. The telephone is made up of three parts, the transmitter, the receiver and the connecting wires. When you speak into the telephone, the transmitter changes the sound waves of your voice into an electric current. The first telephonic conversation took place on March 10, 1876. The first thing Alexander said on the telephone was, "Watson come here." Watson was Bell's assistant. Alexander Bell was widely credited with the invention of the first practical telephone.

The telephone has changed over the years in many ways. Above you will find two of the first types of telephones. A while ago, the telephone had connecting wires and a scroll to enter the phone number. Now you just press little keys with numbers and your call is on your way. Most phones today also can be wireless!! You can walk on the phone as far as you want! When Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, little did he know that he was influencing other inventors to take his work and make it better. Look at what a phone from today looks like, courtesy and started by Bell. Below you will find a photograph of a more new telephone.
