Back to School Night Is In Person!
Please join us in-person at our Back to School Night scheduled for September 15th.Our staff has been engaging in relationship building activities with your student and are focusing on the learning goals for this school year. We know you are a very important partner in our work in school. so we invite you come hear about our plans for this year and meet the adults who will be serving your student this year.
You can visit our website if you need to refer to the details as we arrive closer to the date of the event. As a suggestion, be sure to have access to your child's schedule since you will need it for the night. We are looking forward to seeing you again and for the opportunity to return IN PERSON for Back to School Night!
8th Grade Trip Reminder
- Due: Permission forms are due Friday September 16th.
- Cost: $45 and can be paid through the School Cash Online system or cash or check made out to Eastern Middle School.
- Need Help Paying: If you need help paying the cost, please send a note to your child’s Social Studies teacher requesting this assistance and we would be happy to waive the fee for your student.

Checking on Student Grades: ParentVue/ StudentVue
Help students to look for missing assignments that can impact the grades significantly at this point in the quarter, since there are only a few grades. The good news is, if students miss an assignment or are confused by an assignment they can fix it now before they fall too far behind.

MCPS 8 Things to Know for Thursday, September 8th
Here are eight things to know for Thursday, Sept. 8. They include information about COVID-19, bus route information, availability for free school meals, a request to update your contact information, state-mandated health curriculum, Parent Academy TO GO and good news about an MCPS graduate.
Vending Machines at Lunch
Parents you may be aware there are vending machines in the lunchroom. While many of our students are excited to use optional resource, please find this important update about refunds when the machine is broken.

Meeting on THURSDAY
We will hold our first general PTSA meeting of the school year this Thursday, September 15th at 6:00pm in the cafeteria just before Back to School Night. Please plan to join us and meet other parents from your student's grade-level. We are excited to welcome all of our families!
MCPS Student Handbooks
The four key handbooks and guidelines developed for students of Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) have been revised for the 2022-2023 school year to address Board of Education (Board) policies and MCPS regulations amended and revised over the 2021-2022 school year, and comply with updated guidance from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE).

FAMILY OUT OF SCHOOL WEBSITE
The Out-of-School Time (OST) website is designed to provide students and families with safe and engaging options for students on days when school is not in session (after school, weekends, scheduled school closures).These in person and/or virtual activities will address academic skills, physical and emotional wellness, and digital learning skills. FREE AND REDUCED-PRICE MEALS
Students may qualify for free or reduced-price meals based on household size and income. They may also qualify if they are receiving Food Supplement Program (FSP) or Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) benefits. Families may apply for meal benefits by completing an Application for Free and Reduced-Price Meals for the current school year. Federal eligibility guidelines change each school year; therefore a new application must be submitted each school year. All students in the family should be listed on one household application. A notice will be mailed home for each student if you are approved for meal benefits or do not qualify for meal benefits. Please keep this important document for your records and use throughout the school year. Families may apply for meal benefits at any time during the school year. Households that are unable to apply online should contact their school or the Division of Food and Nutrition Services at 301-284-4900. Please click here to apply online.
