The Equity Report
September 2021
Join Us Thursday as Bettina Love comes to Framingham virtually to spread wisdom and knowledge.
In Partnership with FPS and McAuliffe Charter School
In partnership with the Christa McAuliffe Charter School, the Framingham Public Schools is excited to invite you to attend a Zoom based event as we welcome Dr. Bettina Love.
Bettina Love: Living A Hip Hop & Abolitionist Life: Resistance, Creativity, Hip Hop Civics Ed, Intersectionality, & Black Joy
Dr. Love will discuss how Hip Hop Civics Ed, when linked to the framework of intersectionality and Abolitionist Teaching, creates a space where Black lives matter and analytic sensibilities are nurtured to engage youth in the work of fighting for visibility, inclusion, and justice. Her talk will end by calling for us all not only to teach students about racial violence, oppression, and how to make sustainable change in their communities through innovative and radical civic curriculum, but also to expose youth to the possibilities that come with envisioning a world built on Black joy, creativity, imagination, boldness, ingenuity, and the rebellious spirit and methods of abolitionists.
Emergency Resource Form & Welcome Center Resource Room
For too long many of you have had to bear the burden of finding boots, coats, and more for the children in your classrooms. While these efforts have been heroic they also highlight a significant need that requires a more formalized system to meet students' holistic needs while also not taxing our workforce. To that end, we are excited to announce the opening of the FPS Welcome Center Resource Room. This is a new partnership with Jewish Family Services (JFS). The Resource Room includes access to new clothing, backpacks, shoes, school supplies, hygiene products, pampers, and more free and open to all students. The Emergency Resource Request Form can be found on the district webpage under STAFF RESOURCES. Simply click the link, complete the form and your order will be packaged by members of the Wrap Around team and delivered to the school within 24-48 hours via the PONY. Please only submit requests for emergency issues. We are excited to have JFS join us as a partner in ensuring all students and families in FPS have their basic needs met. If any staff is interested in donating new items to the closet, please email Yemi Ajao, the Wrap Around Manager, at aajao@framingham.k12.ma.us
