in 1927, the Mississippi river floods
ITS LOCATION
In the Midwestern states, Greenland, Illinois, Louisiana, and (the most destructive) Arkansas.
THE RIVERS INVOLVED IN THIS...TURNING OF THE TIDES
Illinois shores. (even though this isnt a "river/ocean involved" A levee at Mounds Landing in Mississippi river broke, causing the flood to arise.
THE SIZE
In the end, the flood affected an area of 27,000 square miles (the size of ALL New England states combined)
FLOOD CONTROL MEASURES
Levees were in play, but they broke, and (as we know) caused it to flood over.
THE AFTER-MATH
It was still really devastating, seeing as even after 5 weeks, Mounds Landing was still under 100 FT of water.

~Over 130,000 homes were lost, & 700,000 people were were displaced.
~246 flood-related deaths were reported
~Property damage was estimated at 350 million dollars, equivalent to approximately 5 billion dollars today.
