NOTEWORTHY NEWS BY MRS. FOSTER
WEEK OF APRIL 13-17, 2015
CAMP ACADEMICS
GREETINGS
We are in the final week of the Booster-Thon Fun Run. Our class has done great getting pledges. We have class incentives for the amount of pledges we get. We have already had a shoes off day and an hour of free music time. Please make plans to be at school for the Fun Run. It is an exciting day.
READING/WRITING
This week we are choosing animal books and beginning to gather information to write a research-like paper. We will spend two weeks on this project. The first week, we will spending time gathering information about each animal. The second week, we will be putting our information into a report format. In reading groups, we will be working with compound words, summarizing, character traits, and quotation marks.
MATH
We have moved from adding one digit numbers to adding two digit numbers. Although you might think that adding 74 + 2 is simple, it is a hard concept for the kids to grasp. Any practice you can do at home will greatly benefit your child. We will also be looking at 3D objects. The kids love exploring different shapes.
SOCIAL STUDIES
We did really well learning about directions last week. We will go into more depth with N, S, E, and W this week. The students are looking at simple maps and finding things that are north, south, east or west of an object. If you are in the car with your child, have a discussion on which direction you are going. This makes what we are learning in class valuable.
SCIENCE
We should have chicks on THURSDAY!!!!!!!!! This will be an exciting week in science. We will be able to see the chicks use their egg tooth to break out of their shells. Be sure to check out the link to the live streaming so you can watch this amazing event.
PEARLS OF WISDOM
You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand.
