Types of Chemical Reactions
Chance Johnson
There are 5 types of Chemical Reactions
Synthesis, Decomposition, Single Replacement, Double Replacement, and Combustion
Synthesis
Definition-the combination of ideas to form a theory or system.
Equation-A+B > AB
Example- 2Li+Cl > 2LiCl
Decomposition
Definition-the state or process of rotting; decay.
Equation-AB > A+B
Example- 2HO > 2H+O
Single-Replacement
Definition-a type of oxidation-reduction chemical reaction when an element or ion moves out of one compound and into another
Equation- A+BC > B+AC
Example-H+OLi > O+HLi
Double-Replacement
Definition-type of reaction that occurs when the cations and anions switch between two reactants to form new products
Equation-AB+CD > CB+AD
Example-NaCl+AgO > AgCl+NaO
Combustion
Definition-a reaction in which one of the reactants is oxygen. ▪ The other reactant is usually a hydrocarbon
Equation-CO2+H2O
Example-3CH+2O > CO+H2O
