Roadrunner Report
February
From the Principal's Pen
February 2023,
Hello Rolling Ridge families! We are looking forward to another exciting month at school! During the month of February, students will complete their mid-year assessments and we will continue to watch them learn and grow at school. Student scores are available on ParentVue. If you have not yet had a conference with your child's teacher (or if you would like another conference), please reach out to schedule one.
Our SCA has planned a spirit week from February 13-17th for Kindness Week! We are excited to participate and to see the wonderful acts of kindness that our roadrunners show one another throughout the week. The themes for each day are as follows:
Monday: Power up with Kindness (dress like a superhero)
Tuesday: Hearts Day (wear pink or red for Valentine's Day)
Wednesday: Peace, Love, and Kindness (Wear Tie Dye)
Thursday: School Spirit Kindness (Wear Green and White)
Friday: Dream of Kindness (Pajama Day)
We are looking forward to grade level family engagement events this month as well as our second PTA event of the school year! We can't wait for PTA Bingo Night on February 24th. Our PTA has been working hard to support our school community!
Have a wonderful month!
Ms. Sacco

Library Notes
Happy February, Roadrunners!
This month is an exciting month in library! I’m excited to share that on February 8th, students in grades K-2 will have the opportunity to meet virtually with an author during their library time! Author Beth Ferry will be meeting with us to discuss her books- specifically, “Marsha is Magnetic”, her newest book which is nominated for a Virginia Readers’ Choice Award! We look forward to meeting her and learning from her!
On March 6th, students in 2nd and 3rd grade will have the opportunity during library time to meet local author Sue Fliess. Attached to this newsletter is a flyer in case anyone would like to order autographed copies of her books- though keep in mind that only students in second and third grade will have the opportunity to hear her speak. You are under no obligation to purchase a book from the author.
We hope to have another author visit for our upper grade students in the spring. Stay tuned!
Don’t forget, we will have our Spring Scholastic Book Fair on March 13-17. If you’d like to volunteer, please email me at lori.redman@lcps.org and I can send you the link for our sign-ups. All volunteers receive 15% off their Book Fair purchases!
And just a reminder as always: Read, Read, Read!!
News from the Gym
In the month of February during PE, students will be participating in a base game unit (where students will be using their feet to strike a ball), students will also be participating in a bowling unit during the month. The base game unit will improve students’ foot eye coordination and the bowling unit will allow students to improve their underhand roll skill at a target from various distances. Be sure to check out the physical education section on Rolling Ridge’s website, as it will be updated each month with a new fitness calendar, which will provide students with activities they can do at home to stay active.
