OCPL Weekly Update
June 9, 2015
The Mahan SRP kickoff on Monday went well. A lot of people showed up and everyone seemed to have a good time. The face painter was late because she had the time wrong, but on the upside, she didn’t charge us for the event and worked extra fast to get the kids’ faces painted.
Thanks for Lisa for overall help with the event (including watching the bouncy house); Karen and Rachel for taking care of the circ desk; Shannon for doing a craft, handing out SRP materials and answering SRP questions; and Gracelyn Jack for cutting out the Minecraft pictures for us to use in our photo booth. Check out the pics!
I’ve been doing interviews for the open hours at Mahan. I’ve interviewed two people so far and have another interview scheduled for this week. Hopefully, I’ll be able to talk to at least a couple of more people before it’s all said and done. I hope to make my decision my next week.
Outreach & Adult Programming
Still no app. Blame the app stores. They are slow. Painfully so.
Other than that, SRP is going smoothly on this side! Auto email certificates are running well, and by the time this newsletter is read by most, we’ll already have had 4 adult events. Some of the art made at Tuesday’s coloring program is on display at Main.
Thursday, June 9th is Melissa Brown’s last day. We will miss her and wish her the best!
The Summer Reading Program is up and running after two successful SRP kick-offs! We have had lots of programs already. There is something to offer almost every day. Here is a link to the children’s page so that you can check out the activities: http://www.oldhampl.org/children.htm.
I wanted to remind everyone that when kids bring their reading logs in to make sure that their parents or caregivers take a moment to sit down at one of the computers and submit their SRP completion (if they haven’t already done it at home). The link for the SRP completions is on the website at our SRP page: http://www.oldhampl.org/srp.html. South and Main have computers with links to the google doc already. Mahan will likely have to input the information at the circ desk for the patrons until the app is up and running.
This is the only way that we will know who has finished the SRP. There is no paper trail this year! We share that information with the local schools so that those kids can be rewarded at school, and it is also the list of names that we will pick prizes from.
Thank you so much for all of your hard work at the circ desks! I know that SRP can be a challenge.
Please let me know if you have any questions about anything!
Teens & Main Circ
Next Week for Teens:
Tuesday--Join Dumbledore's Army @ Main Library, 6-7:30 p.m. Register online
When teens check out books this summer, feel free to give them one of the SRP bookmarks for teens. This has the web address and information so that they can submit their reading. Event information is in the teen brochure, but also in detail in the SRP newsletter.
