Please use the doodle link to choose at time that works best for your schedule.

Please note, Compass will dismiss at noon on both conference days.

This week we finished up our fiction book series clubs by writing recommendations about these book series. We considered what would be interesting for other readers in our school community. We made beautiful and inviting labels to add into the soon-to-be improved school library. We hope to inspire other readers to become series experts too!

Next week we will begin to focus on folktales, fables and fairytales!

We finished up our unit studying geometry and shapes this week. Second graders looked closely at 2-D and 3-D shapes to draw them and went on a scavenger hunt for shapes around the classroom.

Next week we will start working with place value and explore how thinking of a number as 100s, 10s, and 1s can help us problem solve more efficiently.

Project Time and Writing

This week we started to draft a book about our study of the Lenape and Brooklyn hundreds of years ago. The class brainstormed topics we might want to write about in the book. We started planning with partners on a web and drafting our pages.

We hope to publish the book next week! You can look forward to reading another Elm Class book soon.

Make Art

This week we made etchings in preparation for printmaking next week. Students drew on styrofoam to make an imprint of the image the want to print. Many second graders took inspiration from images in the book Little Fox to create their work.

Compass Magazine

Some Elm friends are collaborating to write Compass's first magazine! They are working with some friends in the Maple class, led by Violet's mom, Abigail. We look forward to reading their first publication!

More photos from our week

The class had lunch outside on Friday and we visited the Maple's Living Systems Museum.
