A note from Mrs. Webb
Hello, Parents!
As you know, next Monday our students will begin taking the Georgia Milestones. I want to reassure you that there is no reason for you or your child to be anxious or stressed about this testing. We know that our students and staff have worked hard preparing for Milestones and will be ready to show what they know.
I also want to encourage you to have your child get plenty of sleep each night, eat a healthy breakfast every morning and be at school on time every day. And most importantly, please tell your children how proud you are of them and how you trust in them to do their best. I also truly believe in them, and I’m confident they all will do very well.
Remember, this is your child’s time to shine!
Your principal,
Laura Webb

If possible, please do not schedule any appointments during their testing days. We want to remind you that visitors will not be allowed in the building on testing days and that WILL include lunch visitors. Milestones Nutrition Suggestions from Nurse G
- Breakfast is always important, but it's especially critical during Milestones testing. Protein is very important for brain function where carbohydrates may initially give energy, but then cause a decrease in energy. Some suggestions for breakfasts that help with brain function: eggs, bacon, sausage, beans and nuts are all great sources of protein. Having a protein source with a fruit is recommended, while liquids, such as shakes are not preferred.
- Also, please make sure your child gets at least 8-9 hours of sleep each night.

Springtime Reminders from Nurse G
A few things to remember as the temperature changes:
- Please switch out your child's larger winter coats with a lighter jacket or sweater. This will help your child not become overheated but allow them to stay warm if the air conditioning becomes too cool for them.
- Please make sure you send your child with a water bottle every day, so they can stay well hydrated.
- I also recommend that your child wear socks and sneakers. These not only protect your child’s feet from injury (i.e., ant bites, wood chips, etc.) but also are safer when running and climbing on the playground.
- Please exchange your child’s winter spare clothing in their back pack for appropriate spring clothing.
A Recess Note from Nurse G, Please Read
Your child’s health and safety is very important to us at Big Creek. The CDC and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta both encourage outside recess as a part of their health promotion and increased classroom concentration. Weather permitting, each class goes outside for 30 minutes of recess daily.
If your child has a chronic condition that would prevent them from participating in their usual class routine a physician’s note will be needed. When a physician’s note is received, stating a child may not participate in outdoor activities, please be mindful that would also include Field Day or any other outdoor class activities.
The form to be completed by your physician can be found on the Big Creek Elementary Web Page. Click on School Nurse under the Student Services Tab, then on the left hand side, click Health Forms. The needed form is titled Individualized Health Care Plan. Once the form is completed by you and your child’s physician, please send it in with your student.
I appreciate you taking your time to help me be able to give great care to your child. I look forward to seeing your student continue to thrive this year. Please feel free to call or email me if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Nurse G
