Dolphin Tales
2017-2018 School Year
Third Quarter Connections at Disney Elementary
Dolphin Tales is an end of the quarter e-newsletter for us to share a snapshot of the wonderful events that took place during the quarter. TEAM DISNEY believes that positive partnering with parents is truly the only way to make our team stronger.
Positive Partnering Tip:
Studies have shown that the students whose families value kindness and respect more than achievement actually have better academic success in school than the families who believe achievement matters above all else. In some cases, placing high pressure on students can actually cause their grades. and more importantly their self-esteem, to suffer. This can lead to higher levels of anxiety or even depression. Here are some ways to demonstrate respect and kindness to your children:
- When talking to others (i.e. neighbors), let your child see you being polite. This may seem small, but when a child watches you use polite responses like "please" and "thank you" to all others, it helps build the habits for them as well.
- When your child shows nice or kind actions, praise them for it. This will remind them how much you value kindness.
- Encourage your child to connect with their teachers and classmates. These relationships will help them realize that how we treat others is more important than our grades, awards, and achievements.

Character Counts
Our longtime community partner, Seminole Baptist Temple, helped introduce "Commitment" as our Character word during the Character Counts Assembly. Mrs. Bennett, our school counselor, continued to discuss commitment through her counselor lessons. Classroom teachers followed-up by helping students set goals and commitments for the New Year. We also had a school-wide thematic unit that focused on "going for the goal" in connection with the Olympics. Students developed goals with their teachers and were recognized on their class displays when they had reached their goals.
Please take time to watch our "Commitment" video below.
