Magical Moment "SPOTLIGHT" - Jatoya Travillion, Pam Paolino, and Brenda Rojas
This week's Magical Moment "SPOTLIGHT" is on three teachers who use "Anchor Charts" to make learning visible. Anchor charts build a culture of literacy in the classroom, as teachers and students make thinking visible by recording content, strategies, processes, cues, and guidelines during the learning process.
Mrs. Travillion shared with me that she posts anchor charts to keep relevant and current learning accessible to students, to remind them of prior learning, and to enable them to make connections as new learning happens.
Mrs. Paolino and Mrs. Rojas' require their students to refer to the anchor charts and use them as tools as they answer questions, expand ideas, or contribute to discussions and problem-solving in class.

After School Activities Protocol (Tutoring, Clubs, and Sports)
To ensure that students are supervised at all times and we are communicating appropriately with our parents, please review the following after school activities protocol and plan accordingly:
Regular Dismissal @2:45pm
-All students should dismiss according to the regular dismissal process. There should be no students who are walking down the hallway unsupervised. At 3:10pm, students who are in after school activities should be escorted by their dismissal teacher to the cafeteria to be greeted by their sponsor/coach.
-Please refer to the Google doc with the list of after school activities, dates, and student names.
Cancellations
-Cancellations should only occur at least 24 hours before the scheduled activity date. "Day of" cancellations should not be a common practice.
-Parents should be notified of cancellations in writing and if at all possible by phone as well.
-Please send an email to Mrs. Willis and Mrs. Chavez when you are cancelling tutoring so we can communicate the change to parents if they call the front office.
After School Activities Dismissal
-All activities should end before 4:30pm. Students should be outside at 4:30pm for dismissal.
-Please use the red hall or car arrival doors to dismiss. Please do not dismiss from the blue or green hallway doors.
Guzick Teachers have H.E.A.R.T.
Mrs. Smith sent out the PBIS Teacher Behavior Matrix last week. I have attached it again to this email. Thank you to the teachers who attending the PBIS differentiated PD session on Monday and provided feedback. Please see below a highlight of two areas on the matrix this week:
1.) Accountability in the Classroom: Ensure that your consequences for student behavior is clear and consistent. Document all major incidents (hitting, bullying, harassment, etc.), call parents, and inform administration.
2.) Respect in the Classroom: Speak in an appropriate tone. Praise students individually and specifically with merit. Discipline with dignity by not humiliating students in front of their peers.
Reminder: Classroom Inventory Deadline
REMINDER: Annual Policy and Compliance Acknowledgement
