This insect is dying out because it is losing its habitat since human are destroying the area. They are doing that by building on the on the area and because human are changing the habitat as well. People are also trying to get this insect because it is very rare. This butterfly is highly sought out so they are capturing the adults. That causes a lower population. People are trying to save this insect by maintaining the habit where they live. They are also trying to stop the collectors from taking the butterflies.

There is a metapopulation of this species in the North Carolina sand hills. Only found in the Hoke and Cumberland countries.
