Knodel's Keynote

What's up in our classroom

Week of December 7th

Reading and Writing

Reading--Our study of informational text, or nonfiction, resumes with a continued focus on text features. We're applying our learning to our reading of Scholastic News, a wonderful news magazine for kids.

Writing--Students are in the process of writing a piece of fiction. Popular genres being written are fantasy and science fiction. These stories are not going through the entire writing process in class. (If a student wishes to publish their story, he/she would take the story home to type and print. Google login at home: firstname.lastname##@k12.leanderisd.org. The ## is last two digits of student ID numer.) These story drafts are due Friday the 11th.

Persuasive/opinion writing is our next writing genre. We've already started some small writing in this genre within our Scholastic News Debate section.

Homework

Reading Log-- I continue to recommend an opportunity for fluency practice. Once a week have your child read aloud to you and discuss the part that was read. Here is a link to the Reading Log.

Vocabulary--This week our study is bio meaning life. Here is a link to the vocabulary slide show.

Book Order

I will be placing a book order December 9th. If you'd like to order books as presents for your child, let me know and I'll send the books in a sealed bag.

Order using the paper flyer and send in a check, or use my online code HZHZG at Scholastic Book Clubs. Every item you purchase helps me build my classroom library. Thank you!
