Not-Quite-New Books for a New Year!

Once we move our new books into the general collection, we often forget about them. This January's fiction display will feature books that were new during the 2014-2015 school year. We hope you'll give them another chance!

Contests in the Library

Book Beginnings Contest

The first line of a book can tell you something about the book and the author's style. In our windows will be the first line of twenty contemporary and classic books. Can you match the book with the author? Watch for a google form in your e-mail. Fill it out and submit online or come into the library and ask for a "Book Beginnings" contest form. Students and staff with the most answered correctly will receive a prize. In the event of a tie, names of those with the most correct answers will be part of a drawing. This contest will run from January 6th-27th. Good luck!

What was the most popular book for 2015?

Guess which book was the most popular for the year of 2014-2015. We have copied the first three pages of the book and put them in a jar for you to look at. Did we tell you? The pages have been cut into strips? Submit your guess for a chance to win a copy of the book. This contest will run from January 6th-27th.

Special Display-Civil Rights Movement

During this month we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. and his work. Stop by the library during this month to see our special display of books about the civil rights movement. Yes, you can check them out.

JSH Media Center Website

The JSH Media Center has a new website at: https://sites.google.com/a/independence.k12.ia.us/independence-jsh-media-center/

The new website loads and "shows" better on Google Chrome (of course).

Each month we will feature a "Did you Know?" to help you become more familiar with what our site has to offer.

This month's "Did you Know?"

You can make an online book suggestion from our website. Simply go to the "Readers' Corner" page and fill out the online form.

MackinVIA ebooks

We have over a thousand ebooks and audiobooks available to our students and staff through mackinVIA. To access these, go to: mackinvia.com or click on the mackinVIA app. From there, select "Independence JrSr High School" as your school. You can access the books available to our school by using the Iowa AEA Online username and password. If you would like to learn how to check-out the books to your backpack, stop in at the library and we can help you.

January 19th-Popcorn Day

Tuesday, January 19th we will celebrate National Popcorn Day. The first 25 to stop by the library will receive a baggie-to-go of the good stuff.
