Mission: Working collaboratively to achieve success.
Vision: A World Class school committed to excellence.
Dear Chris Yung Families,
On behalf of the entire staff, I hope you’ve enjoyed a restful and relaxing summer. I’m excited to welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year! I would like to extend a special welcome to our new families joining Chris Yung this year as well as returning families. This fall marks the seventh year that our school has been open, and I remain honored to be your principal. As a staff, we’ll continue to work collaboratively with you to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment that focuses on safety and academic excellence for all students.
I’m excited to announce that approximately 98% of our students will be returning to in-person learning in a few weeks and all staff members will be providing instruction in their classroom. Virtual students will be dually assigned to a Virtual Virginia School and to their base school. This will allow our teachers to work collaboratively with the Proximity teachers to ensure the alignment of instruction and pacing for both virtual and in-person students. The staff is excited about starting the new year and are prepared to provide quality instruction as well as emotional and social support for our children.
We’ll be implementing the CDC guidelines to ensure that our students and staff are safe. This will require that students adhere to mitigation measures, such as wearing a mask on the bus and within the school setting. All staff and visitors are required to also wear a mask. Frequent handwashing will be encouraged, and sanitizing stations will be available to support health and safety measures. The custodians will be frequently cleaning bathrooms and high touch areas throughout the school day.
We’re committed to providing our students a quality education that’s designed to support their individual needs. They’ll take fall assessments and their data will be used by teachers to differentiate instruction to ensure that each child’s needs are met. We’ll continue to have a strong focus on Literacy with an emphasis on providing resources that will allow for lots of reading and writing activities. It’s critical that students use programs, such as myOn and Lexia, to continue to build their fluency and comprehension skills. A strong emphasis will also be on improving Math fluency, comprehension, and problem-solving skills. We’ll continue to use Dreambox as a resource to support classroom instruction. By partnering together, we can have a successful school year with high expectations and outcomes for every student.
I would like to welcome the following new staff members to our school: Christina Grzelak (Kindergarten), Sheila Lueking & Angela Fernandez (Kindergarten Teacher Assistants), Nora Williams, Jennifer Witt & Connorlynn Gaffney (2nd Grade), Krysten Caven (4th Grade), China Craven (5th Grade), Rachel Horowitz & Andriana Palacios (ESOL), Lisa Cull (Severe Disabled), Hala Aldarkezly (Severe Disabled Teacher Assistant), Lauren Hoxter (Librarian), Kammie Terry (START), Autumn Brown (Counselor), and Dustin Jutras (Technical Support Specialist/TSSPEC).

Classrooms have been balanced academically and socially to provide equal class sizes.

If your child will be riding the bus to and/or from a different address other than home (such as child care) please contact the office staff via email (cordervs@pwcs.edu or marmolmm@pwcs.edu ) as soon as possible so it may be updated in the database for the Transportation office.
· What if my child will be a car rider? If your child(ren) is a returning student and was a car rider they will have the same number as in the past. Please contact the office if you need replacement tags. If your child is new to CYES, please contact the office to find out how to apply for a car rider number and get tags. Also, if your child will be transported via a day care van, please let the office staff know as soon as possible.
