Dear SLV Families,
STORM UPDATE – NO SCHOOL WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 11, 2023:
Our last communication explained the process in how we as a District make a decision on whether to close schools, which we do not take lightly. Although it was our intent to open schools tomorrow, Wednesday, January 11, 2023, the trees that fell across Highway 9 by El Solyo Heights took out power to our tri-campus and several other areas around the schools. In addition, that event also closed Highway 9 from El Solyo Heights to the high school entrance.
We personally met with the PG&E foreman of the project throughout the day to receive updates regarding the clean-up and restoration of power. Although there was some promising discussion earlier in the day about restoring power and opening Highway 9, we have recently received information this evening that PG&E will not be able to provide power to the tri-campus until later in the day tomorrow. In addition, at best they may only be able to open one side of the road for access to the campus and they are not certain if that section will be opened at all.
Based on this latest information regarding no power, we will be calling school off tomorrow, Wednesday, January 11, 2023 and will return to school on Thursday, January 12, 2023.
The District will be submitting paperwork to the State regarding if and when we will need to make-up this day.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
When we return to school, please note that the slide on Highway 9 by Highlands Park will not be cleared. As a result, all families traveling South on Highway 9 from Ben Lomond and Boulder Creek will need to take the Glen Arbor loop.
TRANSPORTATION UPDATES 1/11/23:
TEMPORARY SQUIRREL BUS ROUTE CLOSURE
As you know we are short bus drivers. We will need to temporarily close the AFTERNOON “SQUIRREL” bus route beginning Thursday, January 12, 2023 due to driver shortage. The full route is expected to reopen Monday, January 23, 2023. Families will need to provide their own transportation home in the afternoon. We understand this is a hardship for families that depend on bus transportation and will continue to work on a solution. If we secure a substitute driver the afternoon route will be reopened and families will be notified.
STORM RELATED TEMPORARY BUS STOP CLOSURES 1/11/23:
In addition, due to the recent storms and slides, the following bus stops are temporarily closed:
Laurel Lodge Field on Conference Drive
Roaring Camp Road on Conference Drive
Lake Boulevard (Lompico)
West Drive (Lompico Park)
These stops will be reopened as soon as it is determined that school buses may safely pass. You are welcome to drop your student off at a different bus stop location.
