Cedar Hill Football to Host Lancaster in Scrimmage on Friday
The Cedar Hill High School Football Team will host Lancaster at 7:30 p.m. at Longhorn Stadium in a scrimmage, in preparation for the August 27 season opener vs. Rockwall.
The Rockwall game will be Cedar Hill’s first home opener in August since it defeated Tyler to open the 2018 season on Aug. 31, 2018.
Lancaster, one of the top 5A Teams in the Dallas area, finished 9-1 last season, losing to Longview, 56-20, in the second round of the playoffs. The Tigers will open the 2021 season on August 27 vs. Port Arthur Memorial at Prairie View A&M University.
Lynn Named Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Class 6A Coach of the Year
Cedar Hill head football coach Carlos Lynn was named the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Class 6A Coach of the Year after leading the Longhorns to a 12-2 record last season.
Lynn is 80-61 overall, including 35-12 at Cedar Hill with a State Championship Game appearance and two district championships. He is 6-3 in the postseason with Cedar Hill.
Lynn has won state championships as a player (1990-Wilmer Hutchins) and as a defensive coordinator (2006-Cedar Hill) and an NAIA College Championship as a player (1993-East Central).
Cedar Hill Seniors Commit to Colleges
Cedar Hill seniors Xavier Brown (wide receiver – UConn), Syncere Massey (defensive lineman – Arizona State) and Jalon Peoples (cornerback – Kansas) all committed to Football Bowl Series (FBS) programs over the summer.
Peoples received Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Third Team All-State Preseason Honors.

Cedar Hill Volleyball Team Eclipses 2020 Season Win Total
The Cedar Hill High School Volleyball Team more than doubled its 2020 win total less than one week in the 2021 season.
The Lady Longhorns (5-4) opened the season with a 3-0 victory at Fort Worth Trimble Tech. Kamryn Johnson had 10 digs and 10 kills, and Jamia Johnson – last season’s 6A-11 Co-Newcomer of the Year who was also named Second Team All-District – finished with 10 kills and 11 digs.
Cedar Hill, under new head coach Amanda Blackney, followed that up by qualifying for the Gold Bracket at the Tyler ISD Tournament, swept Lindale, Texas High of Texarkana and Texarkana Pleasant Grove (twice).
The Lady Longhorns also were in competitive in close losses to Marshall, Paris and Joshua, respectively.
Johnson had 10 kills and six digs, and Kennedie Adley had 11 digs and three kills against Texarkana Texas.
Against Marshall, Johnson finished with 13 kills and six digs. Benedite Anuman had four kills and four blocks, while Cheridan Camper recorded 17 digs.
Johnson led the way with 10 kills, five digs and two blocks in the first match against Pleasant Grove, with Camper adding 15 digs.

South Grand Prairie is Next
Cedar Hill visits South Grand Prairie – a team it defeated twice when the two were district opponents in 2019 – at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Cedar Hill Assistant Coach Kristin Pressley previously worked as the head coach at SGP, and Cedar Hill Assistant Coach Kiersten Mebane played at SGP before playing college volleyball at Texas Wesleyan.
SGP defeated Waxahachie Life, 3-1, in its season opener and lost to Whitehouse, 2-0, last Friday.
On To West Texas..
Cedar Hill wrapped up its tournament against mostly East Texas teams in Tyler. This weekend, the Lady Longhorns will compete in the Nita Vannoy Tournament in San Angelo (West Texas). Due to the distance, the team will stay in San Angelo during the tournament.
Cedar Hill Home Opener Set for August 24
Cedar Hill will play its first home match of the season when it hosts Arlington Seguin at 5:30 p.m. It is the Lady Longhorns only non-district home match and the only home match until September 21 vs. DeSoto.

Last season, University of Central Florida junior right-side hitter Makenzie Chambers helped lead the Golden Knights to the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Regular Season and Tournament Championships at 16-2. They lost to High Point in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
UCF will open the 2021 season by hosting Georgia Tech on Friday. She’ll return to Dallas area when UCF visits SMU on October 22.
Kentucky State freshman middle blocker Abrielle Jordan will have a chance to make her college debut vs. Glenville (West Virginia) State on September 3.
Cedar Hill Tennis to Open District on August 24 at Mansfield Lake Ridge
The Cedar Hill High School Tennis Team will open 6A-11 District Competition on August 24 at Mansfield Lake Ridge. They’ll prepare for it with non-district matches at Arlington Seguin on Tuesday and Red Oak on Friday.

Cedar Hill Cross Country To Open 2021 Season on Friday at Kennedale
The Cedar Hill High School Cross Country Team will begin its 2021 season at the Kennedale Wildcat Run on Friday morning in Kennedale, just outside of Fort Worth.
Katherine Neale, previously the CHHS Boys Cross Country, is now the head coach of both the Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams.
