Message from Superintendent Murphy

Dear Mansfield School Community,

It's the first day of spring and I hope you and your loved ones are managing as best you can during these trying times. This extended school closure is an extreme measure and one that we all hope will produce the best outcome of good health. I heard the Commissioner of Education describe school closings as a "clinical rather than an educational decision" and on this, I believe we all agree. Our classrooms and playgrounds must remain empty for now. But, we are doing our part in the short-term for long-term gains. Please know that we miss our students and although we might sometimes think that our school hallways are a bit too loud; these days we crave the voices and laughter of all the children and teens.

All that being said, during this period it is critical that students and their families, as well as school staff, stay home as much as possible. If an individual needs to leave home, it is essential to strictly follow social distancing guidelines by avoiding crowds, canceling social gatherings, and maintaining a safe separation of at least 6 feet from others. Restricting access to school buildings will have little impact on public health if these best practices are not followed in good faith.

Sincerely,

Teresa Murphy

Town of Mansfield Emergency Information

Closed Municipal Fields

We are posting this on behalf of The Town of Mansfield. The entire message can be found by using the following link: https://www.mansfieldma.com/536/Coronavirus-Information:

"As mentioned in previous posts, municipal and school fields and playgrounds have been closed to public use in an effort to reduce the spread of the coronavirus. We understand that this is extremely difficult on these beautiful spring days with no school and no organized sports, for kids and parents alike. Please understand this was not an easy decision for the town to make but it was made in the best interest to reduce the spread of the coronavirus."

At-Home Enrichment Activities

The Massachusetts Commissioner of Education has encouraged districts to provide enrichment activities for students during the period of school closure. The overall design is to keep a connection between students and schools. The purpose is not to substitute for the typical school day but rather provide enrichment opportunities based on considerations of equity and availability of resources.

Please keep in mind that this is not a plan for at-home learning, but rather resources to help keep students' love of learning alive, while practicing learned skills. I understand that many parents want a formal program that is taught remotely. At this time, that is not the direction of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and we will continue to adhere to their guidance.

Internet Essentials Program

Grab & Go Breakfast and Lunch for Students

For those students who depend on school breakfast and lunch for their nutritional needs, we are providing Grab & Go breakfast and lunch bags. We are distributing bags daily from 10 am to 11am at the Mansfield High School parking lot.

Guardians or students can pick up Grab & Go breakfast and lunch bags for students in a drive through car line at the high school. We are abiding by social distancing guidelines and food will be placed in your trunk. Participants are asked to remain in their car.

If we can assist you, please email backpackbuddies@mansfieldschools.com so we can be prepared. Please let us know the number of students you will be picking up for and if there are any specific dietary restrictions. Grab & Go available while food supplies last.

Student Medication and Medical Supplies

If you need your child's medication or medical supplies that are stored in the school Health Office, please email your child's principal and we will coordinate with you.

The deadline for pick-up is Friday, March 20 at 11:00 am.
