Harrowsmith PS Weekly Update
January 26, 2024
Good Afternoon Harrowsmith Families.
Amendment to School Year Calendar 2023-2024 – Total Solar Eclipse
This is a reminder that the 2023-2024 school year calendar has
been amended so that the April PA Day, originally scheduled for
Friday, April 12, 2024, will now occur on Monday, April 8, 2024.
This change does not add an additional PA Day for the school
year, but simply adjusts the date of the April PA Day due to the
total solar eclipse on April 8. April 12 will now be a regular school
day. An updated 2023-2024 school year calendar has been
posted to the board website.

If buses are cancelled on a Gino's, Subway or Reid's Milkshake days the following will happen:
- Gino's on Mondays will be moved to Tuesday
- Reid's Milkshakes on Wednesdays will be moved to Thursday
- Subway on Fridays will be moved to Tuesday because Monday's are Gino's days
Please note: notification of any modifications to the above schedule will be sent to parents (ie this week we had to reschedule Milkshake Day to next week due to multiple bus cancellations and conflicts with other lunches, etc)
Have you signed up for notification of bus cancellations?
If not, please sign up through the Triboard website to receive notifications of bus cancellations, delays and other bus related informations at the following link: https://triboard.ca/alerts/
KFL&A Dental Screening - Grades JK, SK, 2 & 7 - February 20th to 22nd
Who will screen your child's teeth?
School Dental Screening is done in all elementary schools by a registered dental hygienist and a certified dental assistance from KFL&A Public Health.
The grades to be screened at our school will be JK, SK, 2 & 7 as well as some students with dental concerns.
What does dental screening look like?
The screeening is a quick look in to the mouth with a sterilized mouth mirror, using all appropriate infection control practices.
What happens if we see a student with a dental problem?
Each student who is screeened gets a card to take home that shows the results of the screening. Parents are contacted if their child has a dental problem that needs to be treated. Funding for this treatment may be provided to eligible children through the Health Smiles Ontario (HSO) program.
Why is dental screening important?
- To identify dental problems that could lead to pain or infection and need to be treated by a dentist
- To help families access needed dental treatment
- To monitor dental disease in our area and to use this information to plan programs and services for children in our communities.
Why do we screen your child's teeth?
Dental screening is requried each year in all elementary schools under Ontario Regulation 570, School Health Programs and Services, Health Protection and Promotion Act.
What to do if you do not want your child to be screened?
If you do not want your child to be screened this school year, please tell us in writing. Include your child's full name, school & grade. Mail to: KFL&A Public Health, Dental Health Program, 221 Portsmouth Ave., Kingston, ON, K7M 1V5
The Hysterical History of the Trojan War.
Casting for the play is now complete. Did you know that we have almost 50 actors in the show, with students in grade 2 right up to grade 8? Wow! When we eventually include our tech and backstage crew, make-up, costume crew, artists and prop-makers, we will have quite a number of Harrowsmith PS students involved. Although involvement in the play is completely voluntary, student interest has been tremendous. We love your enthusiasm, Harrowsmith Hawks!
Rehearsals start next week. Please refer to our school play website for our rehearsal schedule (including which characters need to be at which rehearsal), and our performance dates and times. This is also where you will find important updates about the play. Don’t forget to bookmark our site: https://thetrojanwarplay2024.weebly.com
