Kingsley Connection
A weekly newsletter from the Kingsley Administrative Team...

January 2, 2022
Happy New Year! This Kingsley Connection recaps our last week of school before winter break. We hope all of our students have enjoyed the time off and look forward to returning on Tuesday, January 4th.
The holiday spirit was in the air as we wrapped up our final day of school for December as classes made crafts and played games together. The Kingsley staff was treated to a luncheon, and thanks to our parents, District 58 central office, and retired District 58 volunteers we were able to bring all staff together. As they entered the Gingerbread themed foyer, it was a magical moment for staff as they found their very own gingerbread man full of personalized gratitudes from families and students. We truly appreciate the support of our Kingsley Community as we celebrated the hard work of our staff and students!
Happy New Year,
Mel Hackett and Eleni Gajewski

Students in Miss Resillez's class had fun utilizing a scale to make estimations. This is part of the daily routine with Bridges, our District 58 K-5 math program. What awesome teamwork! | "Mrs. Hackett, come watch our performance!" Students utilized their recess time to put together a performance. They were eager to show off their acting skills! | Another student collection was put on display in the Kingsley library. This 5th grade student shared his rock collection for all Kingsley students and staff to enjoy. |
Primary students shared their family holiday traditions with this writing activity! | These aren't just ordinary gingerbread people! Each gingerbread person represents a student's learning goal. As part of our School Improvement Plan in the area of reading, staff and students have spent a lot of time on student goal-setting this year! We are so proud of the many accomplishments so far! | Miss Beck and her students are at it again! New art projects now fill our hallways by our talented Kingsley lions! |

Holiday Fun & Games...
Santa (Mr. Perillo) and Mrs. Van Milligen kicked off Friday's fun events by welcoming students during morning arrival in their holiday attire... | 2nd graders brought home handmade wood paintings... | More 2nd grade painting fun! |
| 1st graders had fun playing games on Friday! 1st graders played a game called, "Snowman, Snowman, Where Is Your Nose?" | Santa (Mr. Perillo) visited classrooms and put a smile on students' faces... |
The front off was turned into a Gingerbread House... | Happy Holidays from the Kingsley office! | Gratitude Grams were a SUCCESS! Thank you to the many families who contributed! We had well over 250+ submissions that were sorted and placed on Gingerbread people cards for each staff member! |

REPEAT INFORMATION: Winter Weather Recess Guidelines
REPEAT INFORMATION: The Kingsley Mindfulness Club has arrived!
The pandemic has created an unknown and constantly changing environment. This can create feelings of stress, worry, etc. which can make it difficult to focus on school, relationships, or things that students enjoy. Students will have an opportunity to work with Ms. Mia Liebmann, Ms. Nicky Gorman, and Mrs. Krista Saladino over the course of a few weeks. Students will participate in crafts and learn strategies that help assist with mindfulness. The club will kick-off in January. This team of Kingsley staff members is looking for interest forms before setting group dates. Meetings will take place after school. Students in grades K-6 are welcome!
Interested? Submit your name on this interest form by Sunday, December 19th!

REPEAT INFORMATION: Registration NOW Open!
The Reading Games Registration is open now through January 14, 2022!
The Reading Games is a fun reading competition for District 58 students in grades 3-8. Students read books from the book lists, then face other teams to answer questions about the books they've read. It is a great opportunity for kids to read new books and discuss them with friends. Teams are made up of 5-8 students, and may include students from different grades and schools. However, due to space limitations, participation in the Reading Games is limited only to DG58 students. Teams will read books, and be asked questions, from Book List 1 (3rd-4th grades) or Book List 2 (5th-8th grades).
Team Registration
Completing this form reserves a spot for your team to compete on Saturday, April 23, 2022. You do not need to identify the students that will be on your team for this registration, so there is time to finalize the team members. In February or March 2022, you will be asked to provide a team name and the contact information for a team volunteer (16 yrs.+) to participate in one of many roles to run the event.
2022 Reading Games: Team Registration Form
