Pray for Peace in Our World

If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.

Peace Begins with You

  • May today there be peace within.
  • May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
  • May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others.
  • May you use the gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you.
  • May you be content with yourself just the way you are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise, and love.
  • It is there for each and every one of us.

Parent Aspire Meetings

All of the meetings have been completed. Thank you to the principals for organizing and assisting in this important activity. Many parents were in attendance and responded to a follow up survey. A copy of the presentation can be found at the link below. As a system, we are strong in our teaching of traditional English such as sentence structure, punctuation and capitalization. We need to improve in our teaching informational reading and argumentative writing. A list of suggestions below may help you as you include more into your daily instruction.

Career and College Readiness

The Aspire and ACT are based on college readiness. This is defined as having a 50% chance of receiving a B on the basic core college courses and a 75% chance of receiving a C.

Recently, the Detroit Free Press published a Higher Education Section which showcased the requirements that student think critically and quantitatively as well as being more inquisitive. These rigorous skills are a part of the ACT and Aspire. Read more information below.

Free Reading Resource!

ReadWorks is an excellent website for additional reading passages. They provide lessons for grades K-12. It is totally free although you will need to register in order to print materials.

The site provides a large number of non-fiction articles with the lexile level noted. This may be one way to add some informational reading into the "reading diet" of your students.

Check out their special Thanksgiving section below!

GCCS 7th & 8th Grade Advisory Committee

Each of our K-8 schools elected student representatives to participate and provide input into GCCS. The group has met twice already this year.

The first activity was participating in the Blueberry Ambassador program. This activity is a county wide program in which students are asked to perform random acts of kindness. When doing so, they give the person a Blueberry card describing the program and asking them to pay it forward.

We met again as a group to do some team building as well as providing input into how are schools are doing. Questions were around curriculum, instruction, and the culture of the building. This information will be shared with building principals and used in improving our schools.

Students are also working on ways to collaborate as an entire Catholic community. Some ideas include fundraising for Catholic Charities, ways to encourage other students in our schools, as well as other outreach activities.

One such event is a Food Drive for Center For Hope. We are encouraging EVERY student to bring one can of food on Friday, December 11th to their school. The food will be used to prepare meals for those in need at the Center for Hope. Please support this activity.

Below are pictures of our students at work!

Time for Gratitude

As Catholics, we try to thank God on a daily basis for the blessings we receive. During this time of enjoying a special dinner with our families, football games, and celebrating, we pay extra attention of what we are thankful for.

Most likely there are many things we share in gratitude, our families, our health, home and faith. It is easy to take all of these for granted. This year, I am especially grateful to God for the honor of working for the GCCS. He has blessed my life again with the opportunity to work with our amazing Pastors, Principals, teachers, staff, families, and of course, students. I have experienced much love and joy these past few months.

Please know you are in my prayers. I am especially grateful that you have answered the call to share your talents with our Catholic schools. Our children and community are better because of you.

Prayer of Thanksgiving

God, gracious and merciful, we offer thanks for the bounty you shower upon us.

As we gather with loved ones to proclaim your goodness, may we remember those most in need of your love and our care.

Help us see the face of Christ this day in those without food or shelter.

Prepare us to be your loving arms for all who dwell in isolation or illness of body, mind, or spirit.

In better giving ourselves to the world around us, may we fervently adore you and offer you our hands, our homes, and our hearts.

God of abundant goodness, hear us.

With greatest thanksgiving, we are yours.

Prayer by: Lisa Hendey ND '85

In gratitude for all you do for GCCS students. Enjoy your break.
