Romeo and Juliet

Who's to Blame?

Friar Laurence is the one that is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death. It is Friar Laurence’s fault because he married Romeo and Juliet in the first place, and he shouldn’t have sent an old man on a donkey to tell Romeo of the plan. When Romeo came to Friar to marry him and Juliet the Friar should’ve turned him down because he’s supposed to be the mature one that stops this whole mess from getting worse. Friar didn’t stop them because he thought, “This marriage may be lucky enough to turn the hatred between your families into pure love” (2.3.91-92). If Friar really thought about this more he would have realized that such a thing would only make everything worse, and maybe Romeo and Juliet would have lived longer lives. When Friar sent word to Romeo about the plan he should’ve made sure it was delivered much faster. Friar sent “But he which bore my letter, Friar John, Was stayed by accident, and yesternight Returned my letter back” (5.3.249-251). If Friar chose someone who could’ve delivered the letter with much more haste then Romeo may have not killed himself. As you can see Friar Laurence is the one to blame for not being the mature one and for not sending someone who is faster.

"Put your toys away"
Well I got to say when you tell me not to play

"I'm a kid" you say.
When you say I'm a kid I say "Say it again."
And then I say Thanks! THANKS! Thank you very much.

So if you're thinking that you'd like to be like me
Go ahead and try.
The kid inside will set you free!

Reasoning

"Goofy Goober Rock" is a song about being immature and a little childish. This relates to the Friar being responsible for Romeo and Juliet's death because he wasn't being mature when he married them," In one respect i'll thy assistant be; For this alliance may so happy prove..." (2.3.91) Instead of being responsible and saying no he decided to marry them anyway.

What Movie Represents Why Friar is to Blame

Avatar

The movie "Avatar" takes place on a lush alien world called Pandora where natives called the Na'vi live, beings who appear primitive but are highly evolved. Because the planet's environment is poisonous, human/Na'vi hybrids, called Avatars, must link to human minds to allow for free movement on Pandora. Jake Sully, a paralyzed former Marine, becomes mobile again through one such Avatar and falls in love with a Na'vi woman. As a bond with her grows, he is drawn into a battle for the survival of her world because humans have invaded and are mining precious minerals. In the end the Na'vi drive the humans out after a huge, costly battle. This relates to why Friar is to blame because the humans didn't think about the consequences of pursuing this precious mineral on this hostile planet. Friar said," This marriage may be lucky enough to turn the hatred between your families into pure love" (2.3.91-92). Friar made this decision without thinking about the consequences.
