September 10, 2020 Home and School Connection

Allergy, Cold, and Flu Season has begun!

During our daily morning checks, all students are asked how they are feeling, if they have a cough, etc. If a student seems to not feel well then (or at any point of the day) and the symptom they are experiencing is a COVID-19 symptom, they (and their siblings) must be sent home. This is going to make these illnesses be handled very differently this school year since many symptoms of allergies, colds and flu have common symptoms to COVID-19 (as well as strep throat).

According to the CDC, signs or symptoms of COVID-19 in children include:

  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Myalgia (Muscle pain/ muscle ache)
  • Cough
  • Nasal congestion or runny nose
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Poor appetite or poor feeding

What do I do if my student is showing symptoms in the morning?

Keep them home! We ask that you start taking their temperature at 3:00 and ask them how they are feeling. Please continue doing this every 8 hours to watch for improvement. Providing they have not had a fever, and they are feeling better the next day, they can come to school. If they are absent 3 days or more a doctor note is mandatory to be readmitted into school. Please be warned- doctors are being very cautious! If you bring a child to the doctor, they may require you to have your child tested for COVID. We advise you to follow your doctor's instructions and alert us that your child is being COVID tested (even if you strongly feel they are experiencing symptoms related to something else). We will need to document that your child has been tested. We must include information such as when your child began having symptoms, exactly where they will be COVID tested and the type of test administered to your child. If you have other children in the school, they must quarantine at home until you receive the test results. We know that this can cause a strain for some of our families, but please understand that we are working hard at keeping our school safe. We would rather quarantine a few students rather than a class or the whole school. Once you receive the COVID-19 results, please notify the school and we will instruct you with your next steps, depending on the outcome.

As you may be looking forward to the upcoming holidays, please make sure you are checking the list of states that require quarantine. If you travel to any of the states listed at the time of your trip as a "hot spot", you must quarantine your entire family for 14 days.

Procedures are constantly being updated. Your patience and cooperations greatly appreciated! Working together, we will keep the school free of the virus and school can continue as we have started. We must work together!

Free hot lunch program

Recently, a federal mandate was given that extended the school free lunch program to all students. FSP, our hot lunch provider, will begin this program on Monday, September 14, 2020. If you have already ordered lunch for September, you will receive a credit to be used for lunch orders starting January 2021.

To have an idea of how many lunches we will need and to eliminate wasting food, we ask you to fill out this form. One form for each student. This will give us a better idea of how many lunches FSP should provide us with. Every student that wants a hot lunch will be provided one.

There is also a grab and go system that begins on September 18th, This is available for all virtual learners and their siblings from age 2-18. For example, if you have a high school students, they may also have a grab and go lunch. These must be pre-arranged for a pick up time during the school day.

A quick survey so we can see approximately how many lunches we may need. No child will be denied a lunch. Please complete 1 for for each child. Also available for pick up for our Virtual School students. Please order by Monday, September 14, 2020

School starts at 8:00

Just a gentle reminder that school starts at 8:00. Students should be at their desk ready to begin their day. If your child's tardy, please bring them to the main office. Before they are admitted into school, they will still have the MATH process, including their temperature checked. We ask that you remain outside until they have been cleared to come into school.

After school

Please be advised that we cannot allow access to classrooms after school due to the cleaning and sanitizing that is being done. We apologize for this inconvenience- it is the best safety of our school!

Just as a reminder: Any Virtual students wishing to come back into the physical classroom must give us a 2 week notice of the move.

If your child is in the school building and would like to move to the virtual school, please let Mrs. Heil know and they may start immediately. Please refer to the above, that one that move is made, they must attend the virtual school for at least 2 weeks.

Any student that is home sick or awaiting test results for themself or a sibling and NOT enrolled in the virtual school may have access to the Zooms classes, but they are still considered absent.
