FLSA

Purpose of the FLSA
The three main purposes of the FLSA act-
- It mandated that workers would be paid a living wage.
- It mandated that workers would be paid for overtime work.
- It created new laws regarding child labor
Minimum Wage
When the FLSA was passed in 1938, the minimum wage was a mere $0.25 per hour.
Child Labor Laws
The federal child labor provisions, authorized by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) of 1938, also known as the child labor laws, were enacted to ensure that when young people work, the work is safe and does not jeopardize their health, well-being or educational opportunities. The FSLA established groundbreaking rules limiting the employment of minors in oppressive child labor.
