Mrs. Noynaert's Kindergarten Class

Week of September 19, 2016

This Week in Room 508

I want to thank you for sharing your child with me. I am blown away by how much they have learned in just four short weeks, and I cannot wait to see what is in store for our class family in the next few months!

Reader's Workshop:

We are going to discuss how to choose books that interested us.

Writer's Workshop:

We discussed labels and why they are important in our reading and writing. The kiddos thought it was so fun to label the important parts of Mrs. Noynaert and our classroom! This week we are going to continue visualizing our stories in our minds before we write them. We are also going to focus on staying on one topic when we write, which is harder than it sounds. The stories I read this last week truly amazed me, and I cannot wait to share them with you during our parent-teacher conference!

Math Workshop:

New math stations will be introduced this week. We will also begin decomposing numbers and working on subtizing.

We are going to wrap up our color week with some fun science experiments on Friday. My favorite one asks the question, "Is black really black?" I can't wait for your child to share the results with you! We will also continue discussing our five senses.

We began learning all about "popcorn words" last week. Popcorn words, also known as sight words, are words that are frequently used in kindergarten reading and writing. They are often words that are difficult to sound out and must be memorized. Last week we focused on "I" and "a." This week we are going to focus on "am" and "is" and "the."
