OPT IN to take the ACT!
At Liberty Academy, all juniors and seniors have the opportunity to take the ACT! For free! And during the regular school day! ANY junior or senior (even if you were a December graduate) who would like to take the ACT please sign up HERE by March 27, 2019.
The ACT will be given on Tuesday, April 2nd. It's a great tool for any student who is considering college or even vocational education!
Signs of Suicide
To proactively address the important issue of teen suicide, Liberty Academy is offering depression awareness and suicide prevention training as part of the SOS Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program. The program encourages students to seek help if they are concerned about themselves or a friend. The SOS Program is the only youth suicide prevention program that has demonstrated an improvement in students’ knowledge and adaptive attitudes about suicide risk and depression, as well as a reduction in actual suicide attempts.
Liberty Academy will implement this one-day program to our students during the last week of March, 2019. Students will view a video during morning and then complete an adolescent depression screening. Students may be identified, based on their screening results, as needing further assessment by a mental health professional within the building. Parents will be contacted if their child has met with a mental health professional.
If you do NOT want your child to participate in the SOS Program in school, please contact Mrs. Streu or Ms. Johnson at Liberty Academy: 816.736.5470. If we do not hear from you by March 15, 2019, we will assume your child has permission to participate in this program.
