Our Mission Is High School PLUS For EVERY Student At MHS

- Increase our attendance rate
- Increase the % of students passing all of their classes
MESSAGE FROM OUR ASST PRINCIPAL NOAH WALLACE
One of the most exciting roles I play here at MHS is leading our ‘Bearcats Together’ team. This is a team of teacher leaders dedicated to building and celebrating a positive culture here at the school. This is a new team, and one of the foundational steps this year was to gather feedback from our students and staff on what set of shared values our school should stand on in our journey towards our mission at MHS of High School PLUS for all.
We gathered feedback from all of our students and then got more specific feedback from a focus group of diverse students on what these values should be. After that, we led our staff through a similar process, eventually narrowing the list down to the following four core values.
Purpose
Together, staff and students connect in-school experiences to life outside of school now and after graduation.
Lifelong Learning
Together, staff and students embrace learning as a lifelong process for everyone. Talents and skills can develop over time and no one’s ability is “fixed.” Our school is a place where Learning is required for all.
Unity
Staff and students create an environment where diversity is celebrated and all students and staff feel like they belong at Monroe High School.
Support
Staff and students embody kindness and prioritize supporting one another in academic, social, and emotional ways.
‘Bearcats Together’ introduced our staff to these values and pledged to ensure that any action item we engage in as a building connects to them. Next week our admin team will be visiting classrooms to introduce these values to our students building wide in classrooms. By the end of the year we plan to gather student and staff feedback on ways to bring these values to life in every area of our building and ensure that every student feels safe, welcome, challenged and engaged when they walk through our doors.
Doing value work is foundational and takes time, but I believe the process of collaborating with staff and students will ensure that we can all journey together in the work towards a positive culture here at MHS.
We are excited about where we are headed here at MHS and appreciate the continued support of our parents and community as we create a school for all students.
