The Banksmeadow Movie Night is set for Saturday 30 August. The activities will start from 4pm and entry will be through the preschool gate on Wilson Street.
Ticket prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Tickets will be on sale on Friday 22 and 29 August, from 8.30-9.15am and 2.45-3.15pm. Tickets will also be available to purchase on the night. There will be a range of food and drinks and glow products available to purchase on the night. Please be aware the movie night is an alcohol free event.

The Fathers Day Stall will be held on Thursday 4 September. Please send in gifts for the children to purchase at the stall. Please wrap your gifts in clear cellophane. Each child has the opportunity to buy a gift for their dad, so please send in as many gifts as you have children at the school or preschool.

School Open Night for Prospective Parents
Premier's Reading Challenge
The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge is coming to an end. In order for children to receive a certificate they must have their online student reading record finalised by Friday 22 August so that it can be verified.
Children need to have registered on the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge Website. To add books to their list they login with their school username and password.
If you are unsure how this is done, Mrs McDonald will be available in the Library this coming Monday afternoon from 2.30 – 3.30pm to assist you. It may be helpful if you know your child’s username and password.
The Children’s Book Council Book Week begins on August 16. The students have been enjoying reading the shortlisted books during Library lessons. Last year was the year for a book character parade so this year we are holding a book fair. The books are good quality and come from Bloomin’ Books in Caringbah.
Books are available for you to purchase or to donate to the library. There will also be a donation box if you would like to make a donation. The books will be on display in the library next week where children will be able to browse and write the names of books on their wish list to bring home to you. The books will be on sale on Wednesday 20 August at 8.30, during lunch time and after assembly.
We would love to see you at the book fair. All of the books shortlisted for the book of the year awards are listed on the link below.
On Thursday 28 August the school band will be attending the Big Band Bash at Daceyville Public School. A note about this excursion will be sent home next week. We are hoping to get some parent volunteers to transport children to the performance.
All band members should work on Bluesin’ this week, and use The Spook as their warm up piece. Students should already know this piece if they were in the senior band last term.
Tips & Tricks
Once you get from letter ‘A’ to ‘B’ correct, you will be able to play from letter ‘C’ to the end as it is exactly the same.
Also remember that the quavers are not even, the first quaver will be longer than the second making them swing.
Player of the week
This week it goes to Lachlan Grant for his effort in rehearsal this week. Keep up the good work.

Now and Then Photo Competition
Botany Bay City Council Library & Museum services is seeking your involvement in the upcoming Now and Then exhibition.
Below is the flyer providing information on the photography competition. Prizes will be awarded to the winner in each category. Selected entries will be displayed as part of the upcoming Now & Then exhibition at Mascot Library & George Hanna Memorial Museum at Mascot from September 2014 – March 2015.
Submissions will be accepted at Central Library Eastgardens. All entries must have an entry form attached to them.
