News from Dr. Cappucci
Good Afternoon Glenwood Families,
This is such a difficult time and we all know first hand the toll social isolation is taking on both adults and children. We hope that you continue to follow the regulations set forth by Governor Baker to keep your family healthy. We are now out of school until May 4th and as things continue to escalate, we continue to evaluate our plan for engaging students in learning. We keep hearing people talk about this as an unprecedented time, and it is, but it is also a very difficult time. We are grateful to work in such a caring and supportive community.
In the coming days you can expect your students will get messages from their teachers regarding focused enrichment activities that should keep them connected to learning. All teachers should be providing 3-5 opportunities per week. While none of these assignments will be graded, we strongly encourage all students to engage in some thoughtful and challenging activities each day. Remember that although these activities are focused enrichment, our students do need the positive praise they receive daily from their teachers. Please encourage your students and let them know daily how hard they are working. You can always send a picture or a note to your child’s teachers to share the work students are completing.
All students now have access to email accounts on the WRSD emails. Teachers will be emailing students directly, along with parents. Students should all know their usernames and passwords. They may have not used Gmail, but it should be the same as logging into a chromebook at school. If your child cannot remember their username or password, please email the homeroom teacher.
The significance of maintaining a routine cannot be overstated. All of us manage stressful situations better when we have structure and a routine. This is especially true for elementary school children. We encourage all families to develop their own schedules, but it could look something like this:
Wake up and have breakfast.
9:30-11:00 am
Academic time (spend time working on suggested activities from your teachers)
Remember to take a movement break, maybe a Go Noodle Activity or a gym activity
11:00-12:00
Creative time (build or make something, bake, draw, or exercise)
Ideas have been shared by Mrs. Hughes, Mrs. Arsenault and Ms. Teevens.
12:00-12:30
Lunch
12:30-1:00
Silent Reading
1:00-2:30
Academic Time
2:30-3:15
Chores, Family time, time to try something new, something you always wanted to do, but never had time for.
3:15
Go out in the yard and get some fresh air.
We do not believe that students need to wake up at 7:00 or 8:00 AM as if they were going to school. We also feel that if students focus on enrichment activities (including reading) for 3 hours a day they will not only maintain their skills, they will make progress.
As things change we will reevaluate our plan. We hope that everyone is able to stay healthy. If you or anyone you know needs anything please reach out. If we cannot help we can connect you to community organizations that can.
Stay healthy and keep smiling,
Glenwood Faculty and Staff

The biggest question is: What are Glenwood teachers and staff doing these days?
We are all missing being together at Glenwood right now.
We will begin our newsletter with the Adventures of Thunderbear.
Poor Thunderbear. Pilates is not for everyone. Let's try Zumba.
Lots of reading!
Thunderbear needs some help Ginny. Can you read a book about Zumba and help Thunderbear?
AJ has made a new friend! Everyone needs a friend!
What did the fish say when he was accused of hitting his brother?

Have you been exercising?
Ms. Amend
Mr. Jaffe

Oh Mrs. Butterfield can shoot!
Mrs. Plouffe
Mrs. Plouffe was so excited when she picked up her new Glenwood jacket that she was going to wear at recess with her favorite 4th grade friends. In the meantime she's been proudly wearing it on her daily hikes with her family. Her son Chad, daughter Olivia, her husband Mark and Mrs. Plouffe were hiking to the top of Soapstone Hill overlooking the beautiful Quabbin Reservoir. Thank goodness for the beautiful weather!
Mr. and Mrs. Lague
Mrs. Hovan and her girls...
shredded their own mozzarella since stores were out of shredded cheese! Best pizza ever!
They did yoga, made forts, and of course made our own Olaf!
Hey, Maybe they could help Thunderbear!
Mrs Jewers
It takes a lot of courage to try something new. I hope you all find the courage!
Mrs. Wesby
Mrs. O'Donoghue and George have been drawing with chalk.
Mrs. Arsenault is asking everyone to make Music from home!
Dr. Liubovich asks us all to remember to practice mindfulness at home.
Dr. Liubovich also sent a recommendation for Mind Beat
Welcome to MindBeat, your weekly student mental health toolkit! During these uncertain times of limited social exposure and disruption of routines, the mental health of our young people should be an important area of focus for both educators and parents. To help, we’re pleased to share this weekly toolkit containing Mental Health Moments (“bite sized” tips and strategies for educators and parents to support student mental health) and links to upcoming webinars on supporting student mental health. In addition to this weekly email, you can get ongoing access to this MindBeat content by liking or following ESS on Facebook, Twitter, or LinkedIn.
Mind beat offers seminars for parents and students that may help during these times!
Mrs. Lawton
To my Glenwood Elementary friends,
I hope you and your families are well and helping out at home. If everyone pitches in during this time, it would be a big help for your family.
Some of the things that I have been doing is cleaning my house with some of the attached cleaners when they can be found in the stores!
I know I had done the Whack The Flu program with all the 3 grades a few weeks before we left school and one of the biggest things that we talked about and demonstrated is the importance of washing your hands and also coughing into your sleeve when needed.
Please continue to practice these healthy habits that we talked about, as it will help to keep you and your family healthy.
I am also cooking quite a bit and trying to make healthy meals grilling and using my recent new Instapot. I would love to make some chocolate chip cookies though but I'm afraid I would eat quite a few myself!
Also try to get some sort of exercise everyday. The weather has been getting nicer to be able to get outside whether you go take a walk, help with raking and cleaning up the yard.
Please know that I am thinking of all of you and your families!
